Actually I thought fred Jones was the key to the game. Even though we arent a great team we only had 10 turnover and 19 assists. We shot 48% percent from the field and hit our FT. If we can put those numbers up with some consistency we can at least compete. If we could get one leader in the backcourt that could guard and not turn the ball over we would be a respectable team

Jones was the key. He did not turn the ball over and played solid defense. If he could actually hit his 3pointers, we would have won by 13-15 points. That is the type of play we need at the pg spot - no turnovers and solid defense.

Does it matter what you call him when he;s sharing the backcourt with another SG and guards the other team's PG?

He was playing againt Eddie Gill!! Come on now. To say he can perform the same way on a nightly basis against the great PG's of this league is a bit early.

I like Jones, but to be honest, the Knicks do not have a real PG on their team.

I agree. But nobody said Fred was the answer at that spot... only that the kind of game he played last night was what we need more of. Nixluva says it all the time. Our big men are pretty decent and consistent. Our backcourt is wildly inconsistent. And our SF position is just something unfathomable right now.

So if the Knicks were a kind of turing machine controlled by buttons, knobs, and levers and someone told you there was one knob you could adjust on the team to make it more consistent, it would be the backcourt knob.

Fix that... fix a lot of what is wrong.

The most valuable player for the Knicks last night was Jason Kidd.

While it's nice that the team won, that really screwed me up in GamePicker. Kidd should've put my ranking in GamePicker above all else. @#$@%#

I had time before the game, knowing kidd was out with a migraine, to change my pick- I didn't, in part because I thought the nets would rally- even with RJ & Vince they tend to beat us.

But, the biggest key to the game, I think, was the unit we put out on the floor was a cohesive unit that played smart basketball.

IMO - i think its tough to use last night's game as a benchmark for anything b/c jason kidd did not play for the nets. one thing that was amazing for me to see was how dysfunctunional the nets look without him. they are a completely different, unbalanced team without him. i am starting to believe he is the ONLY player on that team with basketball IQ.

I don't care if he didn't play of not. It was a fair fight, since we also had guys missing. They were at home too. They had 2 All Star caliber players in the game, so there's no excuses. It was a good win.

This team has a long way to go before we can worry about it being good. Right now we just need wins. In time we may see the team make the needed corrections and gain more chemistry with Zach. From my view Lee and Balk aren't as explosive as they usually are and I believe neither guy is fully healthy. They just don't look like they're playing at full tilt.

The team as a whole is not quite right. Q is not shooting well and we needed his shooting. So for now i'll take Jamal and Jones giving us solid Guard play. With Zach and Lee in there, we had enough inside. What did the Nets have inside? Even with Kidd this team isn't really winning at a good level and that's part of the problem. They've got a bit of Chicago big man disease.

i wonder if you would have been so quick to say the same about the Knicks if they had been playing w/an 8 man roster & ended up losing that game... but whatever... i don't care if it was a fair win or not... beating the Nets is always satisfying for me regardless.

When we had those suspension games we had to play shorthanded and no one would've given us any slack if we had lost. The thing is that the Nets still had VC and RJ. Those guys needed to step up, lead and carry the team. Instead Jamal and Jones stepped up, lead and carried our team.

yeah, they did step up last year... wasn't implying that they didn't... if we'd have lost those games how would you have felt? would you have said there was no excuse that they were shorthanded?

Actually that has been my stance for a while now. I've said that I still expect this team to buck up, get to above .500 and get to the playoffs. Regardless of the bad start and early turmoil. There are no excuses for this team this year. Just come together and execute properly. As the season has move along we are starting to get a clearer picture of what this teams strengths are this year and what works and what doesn't work. SO they should be able to climb out of this hole and get to a respectable record. 5 game under isn't an insurmountable hole. This team should be beating the other mediocre to bad teams in the East and that includes a Nets team without Kidd or with him.

ok fair enough... there are no excuses, i completely agree w/u... let's see if your optimism is rewarded by season's end... i sincerely hope it is, trust me... there's nothing i hate more than to see this team continue to look like the laughing stock of sports.

The difference is that the Nets were missing a GOOD player. Kidd basically handed us that game with his antics.
