Trade Or Extend Me? Kidd Decides To Sit
December 6, 2007 - 2:27 am
New York Post -
Jason Kidd was "on strike," last night several team sources claimed, and he essentially called in sick, perhaps in an effort to force a trade from the Nets or get a contract extension.

According to the New York Post, Coach Lawrence Frank said Kidd phoned him complaining of a migraine yesterday at about 2 p.m. Kidd never showed for last night's 100-93 defeat against the Knicks, also short-handed, in the Meadowlands.

Maybe it was the contract extension he sought and did not receive. Maybe it is the general state of the team. Maybe it is a desire for a trade. Whatever the reason, whatever the cause, Kidd chose a game against the division rival Knicks to state his case. And the Nets certainly proved how much they need Kidd, losing to the 6-11 Knicks who were without Eddy Curry and Stephon Marbury.

"He's on strike," on team source said.

Kidd's teammates were tight-lipped, though one claimed, "I can't picture Jason doing that. I would be disappointed if he did."

But another source said the Nets were planning on - if not already - talking to Dallas, the Lakers and perhaps Cleveland about a trade. Kidd nearly was traded to the Lakers last February.

Kidd played 30 minutes Tuesday in Cleveland and chatting with LeBron James afterward. [READ]

You'd have to give up alot more than Lee for RJ.

If I'm the Nets, I go back to the Lakers and see if a Bynum/Farmar for Kidd deal can't be worked out.

I'm sure Vince would be the one to go. RJ is a long term piece that they can build with. I agree with nyk4ever that something involving Farmar and Bynum would make a lot of sense for the Nets/Lakers.

I agree. The Lakers have Mihm, who is a solid but often injured center, and they still have Brown. They could survive without Bynum, who I think will be a solid but not spectacular center, in 1-2 years (like a young Jamal Magloire). Add Kidd to the Lakers and they are a championship contender.

Crawford and Curry to New Jersey, JKidd to Lakers, Bynum & whatever it was to New York.
Buy out Marbury.

Take it from there.

Yea the Lakers would give up a center who is already averaging a double double and is going to be a top 5 center in two years not to mention a maturing pg that could probably get them ron artest if package with Kwame and a pick for a guy that isn't going to win them a championship.

I would love to move kidd and curry to jersey and would even send lee to la for bynum in that same deal.

it's a little tricky trying to make a match cuz of Kidd's heinous salary... it would have to look something like:

Odom, Radmanovic & Bynum for Kidd... not sure if LA would give up Bynum for a 34 yo Kidd... they balked at that in earlier trade talks i think.

You're probably right.. a 3rd team would have to get involved.

I guess you missed "/fantasy" ?

I mentioned Bynum because that's the package that Indy wanted for O'Neal, and the Nets wanted for Kidd. So I just figured to mention it I did not mention it with any thought it's realistic from LA's point of view.

I'm just searching for ways to deport our garbage for expirings, picks, and kids, so we can start to rebuild this absolute disaster in the summer of 2009.

Jason is 34 and he's making close to $20 m. I understand the Nets reluctance.

Jason Kidd has been crowned a good teamate throughout his career......but hes been involved in alot of nonsense.....

Toni Braxton in Dallas broke that team up.....Jamal, Mash and Kidd were beefing over her...well at least Jackson and Kidd were. Awesome team but the bitching blew them up.

Pheonix traded him for a reason....he was playing with nash and Kevin Johnson at the same time. He was complaining and crying about the direction of the team and wasn't that good yet cuz Pheonix obviously traded him for Marbs.

Kidd kicked out Byron Scott. He rallied the team behind the mutiny. Why ? they were winning....Kidd don't like you its a rap. Beating his wife?

Yeah so....he is possibly AWOL? Yeah ight.

Who cares you know? I can't stand the guy. He is a major *******.

Kidd is being a major baby about this... what a selfish spoiled prick... if Marbs pulled something like this we'd all be lambasting him til the cows came home... i know i'd be leading that charge.

i hope the Nets trade him to 1 of the worst teams in the league just to teach him a lesson (& to get him out of the East so we don't have to see him torch us on a regular basis)

Again there is one big difference Jason Kidd is a top 10 all time pg. This is very selfish and pathetic, however marbury has been dusted 23-4 since kidd has been running the show in nj they haven't missed the playoffs yet and went to two nba finals.

Marbury has destroyed every team he has played for while kidd makes it easier for his teammates marbury often makes it hell.

I have to ask. Why would we absolve Marbury of poor behavior just because Kidd is acting poorly? No reason to do that......

Regardles, yes, Kidd is acting like your run of the mill spoiled NBA player. He realizes the Nets have gone as far as they can with him. He wants to go farther or at least get paid to only go so far. Therefore, time to part ways. It happens. Sometimes I guess you have to go "Sprewell" to make your point that you're done with the team. Many times players ask out and management says nope. So they then have no choice but to force a trade and usually the only way to do that is to quit on your team to "make your point". It goes both ways there.

The second a player wanted out I'd make it happen. Thorn instead is holding out for an unrealistic package and that's forced Kidd to do what he's done.

Hey, for Knick optimists, this is a good thing. Maybe the Nets start a big slide and we move into the epic 3rd place in the Atlantic.
