I'm wondering what the Raps are going to have to pay this guy to retain him? He's really a starter playing backup minutes and since T.J. Ford has gone down with injury this guy has produced in 4gms 45AST and 4TO'S and past 3gms 37AST 2TO'S, just staggering production. The Knicks as a team the past 4gms have produced 60AST and 71TO'S and past 3gms 45AST 44TO'S

WOW!

I'd say Calderon deserves at least a first yr starting salary of $6mil

He's nutty. They may want to deal Ford instead.

I thought Calderon was their "TJ Ford" insurance anyway.
-- the preceding post was brought to you by the letter K and the number 22.

haven't seen him play too much... What the section 404 report?

Does he play D?

Run the offense well?

Can he shoot from outside?

Calderon is an efficient ballplayer who runs the offense as smoothly as anyone in the league right now. Racks up high assists numbers without turning the ball over at all- 6 to 1 A/To right now. Also picks his spots to score- he's like 50% from the field and 90% from the line. A mini Stockton in terms of efficiency offensively.

This is the kind of player you move Lee for, but we might be past that point now.

calderon is the definition of solid offensively. he has had great success internationally but now it's really translating here.

the guy's jumper is VASTLY improved from when he got into the league, to him being 1 of only 3 guards to shoot 50% or higher last year.

he finds the open man...the word to describe him is "steady".

his defense is poor and always tries to cheat under screens. but this is a case where you overlook that b/c he's so efficient running the team.

he was taking it to kidd in the playoffs last year as well, dropping 25/8 the game the won in toronto where tj left with a stinger.

but like i said in another post, there is nothing the knicks can offer to get him unless we get a top 5 pick in the draft next year.

it's kind of sick but if tj didn't have calderon, or if calderon didn't have tj, they would be dropping 10+ assists a night. right now, they are averaging about 14 assists a game between them.

but calderon also said the other day that he would take less to stay in toronto to play with tj.

it's going to be interesting to see what's gonna happen b/c toronto works on a strict budget. can they afford $15 mil a year on their point guard spot? imho, i think it's worth it since that team is so relient on that position.

Just read my sig
JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

What I see happening. I see TJ ford being traded. Why? Because he is an american player in toranto and they like playing in America. Where as Calderon is foreign to Canada and America so he will probably like it more in Canada and won't mind playing on the raptors as much as TJ Ford. Question is would you be willing to take on TJ ford, I know I would I think he would be ideal for the Knicks.

That is appropriate but it doesn't quite do him enough justice. The guy is crafty, smart, plays within himself and the scheme, and takes care of the Rock like no other. He's a foreign player that has adjusted to the American game rapidly at the toughest position in the game. He's a backup point who plays most of his minutes with role/bench players yet his production mirrors or betters many starters in this league. That's why it infuriates me when I read excuses an apologies for Marbury's and Crawford's inept play at the point position. I'd trade any player on our team for him as long as the deal was close to equal compensation and can be worked under the CBA. He was cutting up Memphis yesterday.

did he just say that cause he is a gentleman and knows how to handle the media or is he really happy in TOR?

Seems to be the opposite of Marb.

Ok then get Calderon on the Knicks or does he love him too. Remeber Colangelo will make moves if the team isn't improving. If he wants the next level he may have to make moves to get over the top and if that is the case you deal.

i think playa2 posted it a few days ago. he said that you have to look at the situation and he prefers playing for a winning team and playing with another great pg in ford than going to a new situation.

but at the end of the day, it's about $$$. they have a tough decision to make if it comes down to that.

I'm glad to hear that things are going so well for Tornoto.

entering the season, toronto was missing 3 pieces.

1. athletic wing man that can defend.
2. a guy that can create his own shots when the defense clamps down and get to the line.
3. a big bruising big man that plays defense and gobbles up rebounds.

#1 looks like they may have found a cheap answer in super jamario moon who's playing like a mini marion. (they signed him for 2 years at $1.1 mil total - unreal)

#2 tj ford is the only guy on the team that can do it but he's way too small.

#3 still don't have this piece.

so until they acquire #2/#3, they will always be a good team, a fun team to watch if you like team ball, but one that may not advance too far in the playoffs when defenses tighten up.

I don't think he fixes what isn't broken which isn't their backcourt. I could see them possibly trading one of their wing men and pick plus cap fodder for something.

calderon has improved, when he first came into the league, I thought he really wasn't NBA material yet. spotty jumper, not a good defender, average passer, but over the past two years, he has gotten so much better. I still like TJ ford tho...
