that is a really great article. if they can hold onto both (and cano is apparently untouchable as well) and still get cy johan they are going to be nasty next year.

I really don't know what to make of Hughes at this point. Does anyone else think that he comes a little bit overrated? Don't get me wrong, he's good, but come on, the best pitching prospect in the game? Chamberlain's much better and has much better stuff. This guy Hughes is 90-93 to start off the game, then 88-91 a few innings later. He also appears to tire around the 5th inning or so. Now if you want to say the few injuries he had along the way had something to do with it, OK maybe. But I just don't see the lights out guy everyone has made this kid out to be. Again, I like him, but he looks more like a #3 or #4 than a #1 to me...

If it took Hughes and Melky to get this Santana thing done you do it and don't look back. Even if we had to include Kennedy, I'd do it. Cano and Chamberlain are untouchable though.

Hughes had two leg injuries last year. We don't know how healthy he was in any of the games after that outstanding 6 1/3 inning game.

i actually do think he's a bit overrated... they were hyping him to be the next Roger Clemens, but i don't see that type of dominating stuff at all to be honest... his fastball was topping out at 94 mph last year, mostly staying in the 91-92 mph range, even in that no-hitter he was throwing vs. TEX... still more than enough to be effective, but i don't think he's ever going to be striking out no 20 batters in a game or win 7 Cy Youngs, let's be real here... i see Hughes as a good #2 guy, maybe a #1 potential but no way near alltime great talent.

He threw 7 innings of no hit ball. Then he got hurt. He struggled a bit coming back after he got hurt, but then in September he was lights out- 5 starts, 3-0, 29 innings, 2.73 ERA, 1.19 WHIP .229 BAA. And then he was lights out in the only playoff game we won, in large part due to his effort.

Kid is the deal. He didn't strike out all those minor leaguers and move up the system as a teenager if he didn't have immense talent.
