Marbury Takes Shot At Fans
November 28, 2007 - 5:40 am
New York Post -
A fed-up Marbury returned fire at the hometown crowd after the Knicks' 113-109 win over the Jazz, saying fans at the Garden boo out of ignorance.

"If people feel like they need to come here and do that, then that's what they're going to do," the Coney Island product said. "I don't even think they know why they're booing."

Marbury was responding to the deafening boos that greeted him during pregame introductions by a crowd still smarting from the veteran point guard's one-game defection from the team two weeks ago in Phoenix.

Marbury claimed the boos didn't affect him, but they certainly appeared to motivate him in his one-on-one matchup with Utah's young Deron Williams, already one of the NBA's top point guards. [READ]

Marbury doesn't understand half of the words he says, so to see him make a comment about people not understanding things isn't really much ado about anything.

At the end of the article, it compares how Marbury's career is paralleling Sprewell's with the Knicks.

Now I liked Houston more to Spree, but that is an insult to Spree. Spree helped this team to the finals. What has Marbury helped this team to?

Steph also said:

"I don't worry about the boos," he said. "It doesn't bother me. That's just how people feel. We can still turn this thing around."

This shows that his intentions are to turn the fans boos back into cheers, so it's not like he's just being defiant.

With regard to his statement that the fans may not even know why they're booing, it's not hard to understand why he might say something with a bit of vineager in it towards the Fans. The booing went on a bit longer than it should. That's the result of a certain group of fans that hates Steph and wants to drag this out as long as possible. We read their posts all over the web. In Blogs and forums. Their hatred is unrelenting and even more so when he actually gives them more reasons to hate him. Still this wasn't really that bad when you take all of his statements as a whole and not just that one line. We all know he's not the best at expressing himself in a politically correct way.

Saying the fans boo out of ignorance and saying he doesnt even think the fans know why they are booing is a big jump. Ignorance would mean that the fans dont care why they are booing not that they dont know. This New York Post article was written to turn fans on this team. Solace you are trolling bro.

Everyday it's the same thing: The Post or Daily News writes some sensationalized headline to get a reaction, it's re-posted here, and the reactionaries react.

Just watch the games dudes, then if you want to, watch the interviews. You'll be able to come up with your own intelligent reaction rather than the silly one the post tells you to have.

How is Solace trolling? He posted the article and didn't say a word about it. Maybe you're trolling.

Marbury needs to learn when not to talk to the press since he obviously doesn't know how to talk to the press.

I've made this comparison not based on player talent or statistics but player ATTITUDE. How Marbury is playing hard only when he feels like it then taking off nights he's disinterested coupled with his bizarre comments certainly does mirror Sprewell's final months in New York.

Now, Marbury again called us ignorant fans. He also says they don't know why they are booing. Is he so out of touch that he doesn't think his little throw down with the coach and his awol incident combined with lackluster play is the reason? Or does he not think he should be booed for what I guess he figures is HIS business and we should mind our own?

The guy isn't very smart is he.

Does it really matter what Marburysays? Remember all the manufactured news during the Ewing era? Reporters would just straight-up bait Ewing, he still didn't give them what they wanted, and then they wrote that he was nasty.

So it doesn't matter if Marbury says: "The fans are 100% right", or "I am dog! Worship me!".

And if Marbury doesn't talk to the press, do you think he will fair any better in the papers? This is NYC, the press tears you to shreds unless you win. Period.

Patrick led us to wins. Marbury led us to the truck. Make no mistake, this has EVERYTHING to do with wins. Marbury doesn't have the stored up cred to call anyone out.

The man just LEFT his team because he interpreted the statement "If you don't like your role on the team, you can go home" as permission to actually go home.

My problem with Spree was he always wanted to be treated like the man without having any responsibilities of the man. Marbury wants to be treated like he has all these accomplishments, like he knows how to win, when he really hasn't.

i think this is lost on marbury. that was a ****ty thing to do, i don't know what else to say. fans don't want to see anything like that. as far as i'm concerned, if enough fans want to boo him for it, they have a right to. all steph can do is play hard and well and NEVER do anything like that again.

that said, i don't care what marbury says to the press and how they manage to spin and label it. but, has steph officially apologized to the fans at all? doesn't mean much, but could indicate his head is in the right place. i don't know if he has or hasn't. anyone?

When, Patrick was traded, the headline was "GOOD RIDDANCE!". Wins never bought Ewing any slack.

I don't see that Marbury called anyone out, or ignorant. He stated a 100% true fact: We don't know what's going on behind the scenes.

I don't see what the controversy is.

I think the booing is good for him. Keep him motivated to play better basketball. Continue to force him to earn cheers.
