Reggie Miller Calls Knicks A Joke

"Right now, they are a league-wide joke," Reggie Miller said of the New York Knicks . "It's sad because they are an historic and iconic franchise. But people think they are late night comedy jokes."

Miller, the legendary former Indiana Pacers guard and renowned Knicks villain, will call tomorrow's Knicks-Celtics game for TNT. His broadcasting partners include Hall of Fame announcer Marv Albert, who was unceremoniously dumped by the Garden, and Mike Fratello, who had a handshake agreement with Isiah Thomas to coach the Knicks before Thomas decided to hire Lenny Wilkens.

Miller, of course, has a connection to Thomas. Besides playing against each other, Thomas was Miller's coach for three seasons at Indiana. Although the Pacers never advanced past the first round under Thomas, Indiana did reach the playoffs all three years under him.

Miller believes that considering the state of the Eastern Conference and the Knicks' talent base, Thomas should be able to get his team to crack the top eight.

"All I know is that Isiah has the talent to make them a playoff-caliber team," Miller said yesterday over the telephone. "With the talent New York has, they should easily be in the top six. Only Orlando and Boston are running away with the conference. New York is not out of it. All they need is a four- or five-game winning streak and they've already won two of them." [READ]

I read this twice and what I got out of it is he thinks the fact that we're not living up to our talent potential is a joke. In that, it's somewhat of a 'positive' comment by suggesting we have the talent but the 'negative' is that for whatever reason we've still stunk.

I'm sure he's also referring to the off-court squabbles from Dolan to Anucha to AWOLBuryGate.


Be prepared for more of this Thursday night as he will be broadcasting and Chuck will be eagerly awaiting to hammer us during the studio sessions.

Marv - you think the unanimous vote results against Marbury were leaked to the press deliberately by that smarmy Isiah to reinforce a "put up or be gone" message to Stephon - or to dictate his final decision on number 3's minutes as head coach?

B) Why the insult? The title of the article was "Reggie Miller Calls Knicks A Joke". Based on the fact that he said that almost verbatim, it's a fair title.

It's kind of like, "Greg is a dumbass. It's sad because he's done well in the past, but people are getting such a kick out of watching him making an ass out of himself." "But... he has potential."

Is it news that Reggie said we have potential? Everyone has said that, even the "haters".

Maybe you have poor reading comprehension or Must-Defend-Knicks-At-All-Cost-Itis.
