Long story short he was at a fammily wedding I attended. May write a longer post later.

So many questions sprung to my mind:

- "How were you so good without really being able to dribble left?"

- "When you went to training camp to try to get a roster spot, did you already see the season would be a disaster and make the decision to wash your hands of the whole mess?"

- "Do you giggle every time you see James Dolan?"

- "Can I have a small share of the money you got paid while not playing a single game?"

Then I realized..it's not his fault Dolan gave him that monster contract. He played as hard as he could and never did anything to disgrace the uniform. We have a team full of players with all the athletic ability in the world but can't get anywhere. Allan Houston seems to be a person who took whatever ability he had and worked his ass off to maximized what he was given.

Maybe I'm looking at the past with rose colored glasses on. Maybe my standard have sunk so low due to the current state of the team...

But compared to the attitude/effort from the best players on the Knicks this season, was Allan Houston really such a horrible Knick?

Is there any player on this team that you would not trade straight up for an in-his-prime Allan Houston right now?
Let's try to elevate the level of discourse in this byeetch. Please

He was NOT a horrible Knick. He was a trooper and a great shooter. Fair at everything else. But unlike our current Knicks that can score, he was a good teammate. Oh, also, he didn't take stupid momentum breaking shots. He was a great 2nd best player on a team. Unfortunately, in his last years here he was asked to be the best player on the team, which was too much. And when paired with Sprewell, well, they played the same position -- not optimal (where have we seen that before?).

He could not live up to the contract they threw at him. Again, not his fault. Just bad business on management's fault.

The sad reminder of the times of glory...
I am Knicks fan because of him, Pat, Spree, Marcus, Jonson...
But I believe the future is going to be better. The change is in the air

One good thing the KNicks did with Allan Houston is that they actually let his contract expire. Keep the hope alive NYK fans the Knicks sometime do the right thing but very rarely.

Time has been kind to allan but he did get a lot of heat from rabid fans who thought his contract prevented us from getting free agents.

Allan was Joe Johnson in his prime. A near all star on a team that was always missing that one piece or had bad luck. The PJ Brown Heisman toss could have been the legacy that team needed to seal its fate.

But that was then and Allan in the face of this dysfuncitonal mess was a legendary knick who will likely get his number retired one day as a media stunt for Dolan. No, he was not worth his contract but he was far from any embarassmant.

If you asked him those questions Im sure he would have been a class guy and made you feel even smaller. I like your post, Its like you were standing there with a jack and coke in your hand contimplating those questions and going back and forth with it. Would be funny if Allan came over to you and said: "yeah, its like that but you don't turn that kind of scratch down and I played thru the pain until it wore down to notihng! Plus you play with Spree every day and see if you earn that kind of money. Good think I went down cuz if I had to play with marbury i'd have shot myself!"

I think Allan would have said "You know, you're right. I don't deserve this $100,000,000. You take it, and split it with your friends over at UK."

he made the Allstar team twice... he was 1 of the deadliest natural shooters i've ever seen... 1 year he averaged almost 50% shooting from the field for the season as almost an exclusively perimeter jumpshooting G... that's pretty crazy when u think about it... man, i really miss watching that sweet shot of his swish those nets at the Garden.

I hated the fact that Allan wasn't a stud like Kobe. But I refuse to hold that against him. Not everyone can be Kobe. Allan was however a great Knick that worked his arse off for us. Spree was my boy, but I grew to appreciate Allan in a big way despite his shortcomings and the contract. This team could use a leader like him.

See, that's why everyone considers Jordan better. Everyone can be Kobe, but you can only be like Mike.
