I was wondering why Demetris NIchols hasn't been playing. He is on the Cleveland roster, but I recently learned that they are going to send him to the D-League (development league). Question. Rather than send him to Europe, why couldn't Isiah send him to the D-League? The Cavs are sending him becasue he needs to improve his defense. They love his outside game, he's been compared to Carmello, except his doesn't drive to the basket like Mello. This kid has raised his game on every level. He seems to develop late, but has shown as he develops, he becomes more promising. Here's a little something I was reading, the Cavs think he can be a great back-up compliment to LeBron. That's a great compliment. Still gotta see if he develops, to gage whether Isiah let another one go by. Stay tuned.
I'll never trust this' team again.

D-League is still considered a spot on the roster, and the Knicks didn't have a spot on the roster to keep Nic.

Didn't realize that. How would you have kept him?

Admit making (another) mistake and cutting Jerome James.

But he is the great Demetris Nichols, the guy who is to good for Europe but just good enough for D-League. Demetris should have taken Isiah's advice and went to Europe he would have been better for it.

D-League is full of inferior talented players. Europe has better quality of players that would present more of a challenge to Nichols. There is lot to be gained by playing in Europe, you learn the team game there where as in D-League its full of players trying to make it to the NBA as the 15th man on the roster. Personnally I find it a place where players play selfishly to get noticed. Team game isn't highly displayed there.

DNic is in Show. Why would he settle and/or risk time over in Europe where he might not get noticed, might not learn defense, might get injured and not get the top medical assistance, might not know the language, might be away from home, might not be paid as much, might not get a late season run like Booby that would assure a 2-3 year contract, might not have the assistant coaches that would benefit him, etc.

Remember, the D-League is a CLE choice, not a DNic choice. Nicholas didn't have a choice between Dleague and Euro, he had a choice between an NBA roster spot and Euro team.

Have you been to Europe, its not that bad you know. BEsides I'm a believer that in the NBA if you stick to your original team you have a better chance at making it.

Dude, D-League is about fundamentals. Not competition. He can get that' when he comes back to the NBA. He's going down to learn the fundamentals of defense. That's when they actually take the person to the side and show you how you can play in different ways, in different situations. You can't teach that if he's running up and down a court, competing against others. Your thinking of a basketball league, like CBA or NCAA or something like that. This is development. Fundamentals.
I'll never trust this' team again.

I have been to Europe. Have you been to USA, it's not that bad either ...And I didn't mean to diminish anything in the Euro leagues but rather point out the advantages of sticking with the NBA when you can.

Your second sentence suggestions that DNic is better off sticking with the NBA rather than doing something else. DNic got cut by the Knicks ONLY because they didn't have a roster spot. So he jumped on to the next available NBA team, and by your own advice, he should stick with that team too along as he can, right?

Depends on what ass your talking about. Basketball players?

All in all, I think Nichols did the right thing in firing his agent and staying with the NBA. He knows his upside has a lot of potential and he knows he's capable of making an NBA team. I certainly think so. He's protecting his future and doesn't want to end up being just another has been in Europe. No harm in looking out for your own future!

Now that you mention it, D-League does ring a bell. But like Martin said, he'd probably wouldv'e had to been on the roster, signed first.

that's the thing, he refused to sign if he was gonna be relegated to the D Leagues... i was under the impression that Isiah gave him a guarantee that he'd either make the roster or he'd be waived so he could sign on w/another team... if that's the case, why's he all of a sudden open to accepting a D League assignment now? very curious
