Just trying to think of a way to improve our ball movement, since it seems like if we move the ball we can score. What do u think about this idea- since it seems like we HAVE NO PG maybe this can help out our O. Z-bo will feel right at home with this, Curry will improve his passing- that would be huge i think. Just trying to throw some ideas out there. . .

if we had the players who could effectively implement a princeton style offense i'd be all for it... personally i don't see Marbs, Curry, Zach, Nate, Jefferies, Jamal being capable of it to be honest... that offense is pretty complex & everyone needs to fill a role effectively, something this team currently as constructed has no idea how to do... i think we need to address the team balance & get some guys in here who know how to pass the ball, hit open shots & defend before we start thinking of systems to run that will take advantage of this team's skillset... this team can't even effectively execute basic pick & rolls consistently w/o turning the ball over.

You need good high post passing and shooting big men to run the Princeton. We don't have that. Not a good offense for this bunch.

The quick offense actually looked great in the summer league and in the pre-season. When the games counted, they stopped trying to run it after the first game.

This year isiah wants to play power ball. It looks like it could work but these guys have no clue what to do if zach and curry just can't get position inside. They get stagnant and then are forced to go one on one. If zach can't get good position why not swing the ball to the other side and try eddy? or get guys some open looks or opportunities with the pick and roll?

Nope......

Conlusion? These players collectively have no clue how to run an offense period. They are capable but they aren't strong willed.....no leadership......no men on the team. they get a little flustered then the floor drops out.

It doesn't matter what you run Marbury will find a way never to run any type of offense. No pg means no idea what the offense is.

I'm willing to bet that Isiah has designed an offense that is more than capable of helping us win basketball games. I'm also willing to bet that the PLAYERS ON THE COURT are running the offense as effectively as it should be run

I thought that the team would go back to running the Marbs/Kurt "pick and roll every time" offense when we got Z-Bo. Everything would have run off of that. The fact that you never see the two of them doing that is probably the most shocking thing that I've seen this season. They actually look like they are trying to stay on opposite sides of the court from eachother.
Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

couple games ago I actually decided to watch and Steph and Zach actually ran it.

But unlike Kurt who would immediately take the open jumper, Zach hesitated and threw a few pump fakes and jab steps then shot with the defender all in his face.

KT knew how to execute his end of that play...seems Stephon's game today is missing dearly everybody Starbury couldn't get along with and wanted gone...

so true... Marbury looked best when he was playing alongside KVH & KT for a short stretch his 1st season before Isiah made the fugazy deal.

1. Of course, Isiah Thomas isn’t the only coach in the league who could be in jeopardy of losing his job with a sluggish start to the season.

Scott Skiles, Chicago: No, it wasn’t so long ago that Skiles was hailed as something of a savior for the Bulls. They won 49 games a year ago, but the relentless way he drives a team can be potentially his undoing, too. The Bulls have been completely lost this season, losing eight of 10, and that can’t all be blamed on the haze of the Kobe Bryant trade discussions. His abrasive, confrontational style – which includes calling out his players in the press as much as anyone in the sport – can also get a locker room to turn on you.

Maurice Cheeks, Philadelphia: As long as Larry Brown is cramping him as a consultant, he’s in trouble. Brown is finding out how apprehensive most owners and executives in the league are about hiring him as head coach, and eventually could realize that returning to the sideline with the Sixers is all that’s out there for him.

Eddie Jordan, Washington: This would be totally unfair, but the losses will pile up with Gilbert Arenas gone for three months. Jordan’s tight with owner Abe Pollin, the man responsible for hiring him, which offsets his tepid relationship with GM Ernie Grunfel

here's a good option to coach this team if u want to run a princeton offense... wasn't he the guy Jason Kidd gave the credit to when Byron Scott was coaching the Nets & they ran that system effectively to make it to back to back NBA Finals? again, u still need to address the roster issues & bring in the pieces that can succeed in a Princeton offense, but he might be a candidate that we should be looking at if that's the plan to go forward with.

Hmm... you're right, it worked in the summer league - I've been thinking the same thing. So why the heck don't they play that way now?

could be that:
1) the veterans think they're better off using their superior one-on-one skills than playing the team game and they're breaking plays
2) the coaching staff thinks the team is better off using our veterans' one-on-one skills
3) the motion offense used in the summer league doesn't work against NBA defense

What the Knicks are missing is a plan and an identity. Are we trying to establish ourselves as a power post offense? If so, then we need to get perimeter players who can shoot the lights out to complement our post players. Trade some of our more talented guys to get lesser players who'll fit in better in our offensive scheme. Maybe downgrade in talent to some extent to get better chemistry. Somehow pick up a Kyle Korver-type deadeye shooter.

Of course, also trade maybe one of our offense-oriented big men to pick up more of a defensive shot blocking center... or consider giving Randolph Morris some minutes to see what he's really about in a competitive situation.

No offense will save this defense.
Before having any offensive system team must learn to defend.

Defense is a whole other story. Neither Suns nor Golden State play much D yet they are teams that can win. The reason why i started thinking of Princeton offense is because of how lost we look if our bigs can't establish a good position down low. This way they can get the ball farther from the hoop and our offense woun't have to reset or settle for a jumpshot from Z-bo. It will also make it harder for the other team to double our bigs
