Donnie Walsh Open To Taking Over Knicks
November 20, 2007 - 8:23 am
Newsday -
If the season spirals away from Isiah Thomas and he is fired, one of his former bosses would be interested in replacing him.

Donnie Walsh, who is leaving the Indiana Pacers after the season to pursue another high-level front-office job, "certainly would be open" to joining the Knicks with full control over the basketball operations, someone with knowledge of his thinking said yesterday.

"It's New York, and he loves New York and he loves this league," the person said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

Walsh, 66, has been with the Pacers for 23 years and willingly has ceded control to Larry Bird. Having played high school ball in New York City before going to North Carolina to play for Frank McGuire, Walsh would be among the most credible candidates to take over the Knicks if Thomas is unable to save his job

With all these people throwing their names into the ring, it kinda makes you wonder if Isiah has really been put on notice and the rest of the league has found out about it.

Yeah? Why? I hate the Pacers players more than any other team.

Donnie did a good job of retooling the Pacers, which we all know is Dolan's preference....he wants playoff games at MSG.

I think I prefer Colangelo, but Walsh works for me too. Jerry West...I'm not against it either, but his track record has diminished and I hear he never even comes to NYC. Still bitter from his days with the Lakers, huh?

It's not like he's not bringing the Pacers uniform with him. He's a great executive with a ton of successful experience. And he is, deep down, an NYC guy.

Walsh has been there forever. He's not just the guy who assembled this recent Pacers team, but also the one that beat us at our best in the ECF. Reggie, Dale and Atonio Davis, The Dunkin Dutchman, Mark Jackson, Larry Brown, etc.

I was wondering this as well then pondered whether or not it's Larry Bird who has destroyed the present day Pacers and how much Walsh was involved.

Larry Brown was very successful everywhere but here. Judging Brown solely on his time in NY is like determining a child is hyperactive solely on how actively he struggles to remove a plastic bag from his head.

That's brilliant - I'm stealing it!

fishmike 9/27/2024 11:00 PM Ug I hate this. The idea of Towns is great until you see what a pussy he is. Jules is a dog. DD was a flamethrower locked up cheap for 3 more years. First Leon move I hate

Donnie Walsh is a respected tenured GM.

Hating on him is like loving Isiah.
DLee is the best thing to happen to NY in Isiah's 4 year tenure. And that alone, though a positive on the radar, is sad as hell.
