J. Colangelo Interested In Running The Knicks?

Detroit News -
Tony Ronzone, the Pistons' director of basketball operations and chief international scout, knows a guy who could rescue the New York Knicks .

"Jerry Colangelo," Ronzone said.

Colangelo, who built the Phoenix Suns and Arizona Diamondbacks into championship-caliber franchises, is presently building Team USA back to gold medal status. Ronzone was hired by Colangelo as an assistant coach and scout for the Tournament of Americas championship last summer.

"I think that (cleaning up the mess that is the Knicks) is the kind of challenge Jerry loves," Ronzone said.

"Colangelo has told friends that he would welcome the chance to come to the Garden, even more than going home to Chicago," a report in the New York Daily News said. "Colangelo thinks that if he can turn around the laughingstock Knicks and build them into a championship team, it would be his crowning achievement."

I would love to see that happen.

People would be confusing me with nixluva if it did.

Doesn't matter. Colangelo the Elder would be handcuffed by Little Jimmy.

Wasn't it Colangelo who got rid of Marbury in the first place.

I think there are definitely guys out there that are intrigued at the possibility of turning this around on the big stage here. But he will want free reign to be in charge and Jimmy D is NEVER going to give that.

This is why Riles faxed over his resume and checketts said goodbye and why LB wanted isiah's job.
Getting full charge of the knicks would be a major ego trip if someone were to get it.

We need some kind of intervention for it to happen

JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

You see, we were so stupid. We could have fired Isiah and Larry Brown at the same time.

Then hired Jerry to be the Garden President.
Hired Bryan to be the Knicks GM.

Opportunities lost............

I'd love to read a headline that Isiah is gone and Colangelo was named successor all in one fell swoop.

As long as DOLAN understands that the next guy he hires he stays out of his way and just signs the checks. Same goes for Steve Mills who is just useless all the same. Hell, fire Mills, Hire Jerry to be Garden President - Fire Isiah, Hire Jerry West to be GM.

Or Vice Versa. Would it matter? No, because you'd finally have two COMPETENT individuals in charge instead of two CLOWNS.

Bring Coangelo in. Fire Isiah or just keep him on for dafting/maybe coaching if Jimmy still is in love with him.

I could see Isiah being temporarily reassigned within the organization until a resolution comes about but Isiah's ego would never allow him to be stripped of his tri-titles of President, General Manager, and Head Coach of the New York Knicks and be relegated to "Scout".

If it does happen that way it's merely a political step internally. Once he's demoted he's essentially fired.

Calangelo probably doesn't accept the position unless he has absolute say for those he wants to work under him. Which means if he wants I SAY UGH gone but Dolan doesn't then he probably won't accept the position. Seriously could any new GM/President trust I SAY UGH working under him in any capacity? I for one wouldn't, plus with Grunwald in the fold I'd imagine he'd be given more authority with decision making, which would be another slap to I SAY UGH'S face. The New Hiree will want absolute control with an agreement to checks and balances with Dolan on limited matters, otherwise no one is going to touch this mess if Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dumb Mills and I SAY UGH are still included in the fabric on any kind of decision making.

I think he would get free reign to do what he needs to do on the basketball side of things. It's the "corporate culture" or paranoia that I don't think Colangelo would be able to deal with.

You can only hope the Dolan would give a competent GM like Colangelo the autonomy that he's given Glen Sather. Sather is an ass but he does have a track record of success, just not as the Rangers GM.

I don't think many fans are as informed as us. They probably don't even know who Jerry Colangelo is. I'd try to start one though if I was going.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.
