I really don't see what is so special about this guy. Knick fans say he can be the future pg for this team, but I really don't see what makes people think Mardy is so good. Will he be another Frank Williams, Sweetney, Butler, Ariza, or will he be a solid starter in this league?

Without developing some kind of jumpshot I don't see him contributing for major minutes. At the moment he's like a Kevin Ollie type. Great effort, helps the team, but I feel we need more at the PG position.

I just hope that people will like me

I don't believe that Mardy is in the best shape. He looks a bit heavy and soft to me. I don't believe he's 100% healthy either. Still I like some things I see in him. He's had so little time and in particular it's been during the worst of circumstances. Last year with several of our good players missing. This year on a roadtrip and with the team in turmoil and him hurting. This is not the best way to judge what he can be as a player.

Imo he is currently no more then a step below charlie ward or even chris childs.
But since we have no Ewing, Starks n Oak his short comings are glaring, he looks like a career 6th man at best.

People like the fact he's cool and he can play defense. Same pedistal we put Channing on.

The fact collins can't shoot doesn't cover up the fact he can really pass either. He is just a steady player at this point.....not a point but not a 2 either.

Chris Childs had a jumpshot. From 3 point range and hitting foul line shots from day one. Right now I have a better chance at kicking the ball in the hoop than Mardy hitting a 3. For the record Childs was a better player than Ward.

Do you feel that Nate is better at that role than Mardy?

Nixluva does bring up the point about not being in shape after having his surgery. Its a fair excuse.....doesn't help the Knicks much though.

Yup Childs was better than Ward.....together they matched up well against whoever was in front of them.

I never thought his surgery would stop him from making good passes or hit foul line shots. IF his surgery was going to stop him from anything it should be defense. Because that's when a player needs to be quick on his feet and have good timing.

The thing about Mardy is that his first start was marred by an injury, he will get better, I wish Thomas would give him more time on the court.

My other point is that you couldn't pick a worse situation for a young PG to come into and succeed. I mean last year he had nothing to work with and this year after not doing much of anything this summer he comes in on the road and with the team missing guys and in turmoil. He's only playing 15 minutes. I think he deserves a better shot than this.

This is not to say that he's going to be some near All Star, but then as i've said before many were perfectly happy to replace Steph with a Eric Snow type and now they are looking for more. I believe Mardy can grow into a Snow type of guard and that may be good enough for now. If we can somehow work Chan into this and let him grow, I like what he may be able to give us too.

The change was made and I think we need to stick with it and allow the chemistry to develop with Mardy and his teammates. He's gonna need more than a few awful roadgames to do that.

I think things are gonna be fine for the Knicks. Mardy's gonna be fine, Marbury and Isiah are gonna be fine, Eddy Curry, Zach Randolph -- They're all gonna be fine.

Everything is gonna be just fine. All we need to do is just keep hanging in there.

Rondo, Williams, whoever... that of course assumes a belief Balkman would have been available at 29, a belief to which I firmly subscribe.

Yeah, I fell into that trap too, of over rating Mardy. But to be fare, Marbury was the guy everybody was contrasting Mardy against. I would probably look like the future point guard if I played for the knicks last year.LOL

But if you really watch Mardy play, his point guard skills are average at best. But looking at him as a Point Forward makes him so much more appealing. He plays Defense, is good at ball movement and when he is guarded by small forwards his handle and speed looks great. Plus that is a position were you can be a defensive player. He is what JJ2 was suppose to be for like a tenth of the contract, and that's how I look at Mardy.

And if Isiah was smart he would start Nate, JC and Mardy....... but he isn't.

Mardy Collins...
Hmm... This is the biggest issue Knicks must deal with right now.
If Isiah can figure it out we will be one of the best... Yep...
