Former Cavalier free agent inks deal with New York
Knicks Sign Clarence Weatherspoon

NEW YORK, July 20 -- Free agent forward Clarence Weatherspoon has been signed by the New York Knicks today, it was announced by club President and General Manager Scott Layden.

Last season, the nine-year NBA veteran started in all 82 games for the Cleveland Cavaliers, averaging 11.3 points and a team-leading 9.7 rebounds. His 50.1 shooting percentage ranked 10th in the NBA.

"We are thrilled to add Clarence to our roster," Layden said. "He is a proven rebounder, and his inside presence will certainly help our frontcourt."

Weatherspoon, 30, has averaged 13.2 points and 7.9 rebounds over 688 career games for four NBA teams. After a stellar career in Philadelphia for 5.5 seasons and one-half season with Golden State, the 6-6, 265-pound power forward spent two NBA playoff-bound seasons with the Miami Heat from 1998-2000 before being dealt to Cleveland.

"I'm delighted to become a member of one of the premier teams in the league, and I'm excited to play in front of the best fans in the NBA," stated Weatherspoon. "The Knicks are proven winners and I look forward to helping them win a championship."

"Clarence is another serious, tough-minded veteran who can help us win," Head Coach Jeff Van Gundy said. "I am looking forward to having him on our team."

Ah, yes....

More proof of Little Scotty LayDown's utter genius, indeed...

Weatherspooned getting all that money to boost other cats' blocks stats... Damn...

Another season, and more adversity to persevere through. We will get the job done, even BETTER than last year. GO KNICKS!

Swish you know prod is the "DEXTER LABROTORY" of this site the madd scientist."Clarence is another serious, tough-minded veteran who can help us win," Head Coach Jeff Van Gundy said. "I am looking forward to having him on our team. ROFL AT HIM.
JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

Since this turned into a 'stupid quotes' thread, here's one:

"Michael Doleac's size and shooting range help address some of our biggest needs," Knicks general manager Scott Layden said. "And we are very pleased to add him to our team today."

Gotta love that LayDUMB; always looking to address "our biggest needs", huh? Where would NY be without him?

Don't answer that, people. It's a rhetorical question.

Spoon was the sheeeeet in Philly. He is a good role player on a good team. He doesnt fit in here with this ragtag undersized, old, unathletic roster.

Well, that's just it, Fordy. Layden picks him up because he's a solid role-player, but Scotty forgot to fill the starting positions first! Then he overpaid Spoon, by a lot!

The Knicks' roster makes no sense. Before Kurt lifted his game this year, the roster had two starting-calibur players, both at the same position! The rest are second-stringers! And most of them are forced to play out of position because Scotty refuses to do what it takes to get a starting center! Look, every team wants to have the next center sensation, lots of teams are desperate, but not to have any real starting center at all, with the league's highest payroll? Inexcusable!

Your right on the money DefandReb. We have what, 4 power forwards now, ive lost count. We need a CENTER, this fact cannot be overstated enough. To draft another powerforward and add him to the team without upgrading the center position would just be would be crazy. The only way io see us drafting another 4 is if he is an EXTREMELY good pick at the draft position we find him in. Besides that we need a center. I dont care if we have to draft centers with all three of our draft picks. At least that way we at least have a good chance of hitting a center that can help the team.
