We finished last season as the 5th best rebounding team in the league. We were Top 10 practically all season if I recall and got as high Top 3 at certain points.

Well with the addition of Zach(who's been an absolute beast BTW on the boards) for surely would solidify us and keep us as a Top 10 team if not better on the season in this category.

Nope we sit right now as the 12th best rebounding team in the league, something that was a staple of ours and although 12th isn't terrible it's not very good. How can this be the case with the additions and the improved players we have?

The diminishment of Q?

If that's the case Q was taking boards away from EY, that was the excuse last yr as to why EY's rebounding numbers were mediocre for a center. So with Q's ineffectiveness shouldn't EY's rebounding numbers be noticeably better? Oh I see EY hit double digits in rebounding yesterday for the first time this season.

You go Fatty!

Well I'm not looking at stat sheets, but I'd guess Z and Chubby are combining for more bounds than Chubs and Frye, so it had to come at other positions. For at least some of last year we started Q at 2 and Skinny at 3, which must have netted more boards than Qback at 3 and Crawful at 2.

Who played SF when Skinny had his hand broke, was suspended, and then benched. It had to have been from some other combination.

I do notice guys grabbing a lot more offensive boards against us and David Lee certainly hasn't been himself so far and hasn't been nearly aggresive on the boards as he was last season.

Well you're trying to compare the stats of 82 games vs 7. Whatever I suggest you'll find some point in last year that invalidates it. Maybe we need a larger sample size this season to evaluate?

Are we shooting better? Shooting less? Less possessions per game?
Is our opponent shooting better? Shooting less? Less possessions per game?

These things factor into rebounding numbers. You can't grab rebounds that do not exist.

Probably need a larger sample. I could have swore we came out the gate being a strong rebounding team.

Great questions Cosmic and what I highlighted sheds light on the fact our opponents are shooting 46% against us which is 25th in the league and our FG% is middle of the pack ranked 16.

BTW Boston is ranked #1 in offensive and defensive FG% at 50% & 38% respectively.

I think the best way to measure rebounds is by taking into account opportunities.

Divide rebounds by your team's FG missed and your opponenets FG missed. See what you come up with there.

(Reb)/(FGMissed+OFGMissed)

Hmm...but this doesn't take into account FT misses. That's tricky because only some FT's are reboundable- i.e. 1 shot fouls and the 2nd shot of a 2 shot foul. Maybe adjust that by taking 60%*FT misses as an estimate.
