This is important guys, the GM's mentioned in other forums to be hired had an owner that dictated what the direction of the team would be and either hired the right guy or allowed him to do it. ITs called a plan. INteresting concept.

Im going to be consistant here as I have for a few years and say its the GM that executes the plan as laid out by the owner. Its obvious Layden had some qualitites but if not allowed to execute his strength and forced to starphuch in hindsight we know he was not good at it, its gonna be a bad fit. I think Isiah if we blew it up and went young by now would have a running young team that might not be contending, but would be further along than this disaster and we might actually like them. Atlanta went on a similar track and with a few tweeks they are starting to come around and had they taken paul instead of marvin they would be a playoff team! Again, hindsight tells us Isiah could have drafted well and constructed better with youth. I can guess that Dolan wanted Marbury but Isiah had to take ownership of that from day one. He got the glory, or the shame for this. Thats life in Corp. america.

So who to hire is based on a plan. Hiring a name without basis of a plan is just a starphuch.

If Isiah gets canned as coach, Marbury adds another notch to his belt. I don't think Dolan wants that which further empowers MOnsterBury. If Isiah goes you got to give the job to an assistant coach as it makes little sense to bring in a fresh name to restructure and be tortured by the now super empowered Monsterbury.

Can't fire the GM if its the same guy as the coach. IT makes no sense to give Isiah a new boss.

My guess is ISiah is on a very short leash and Grunwald is really now the GM for all practical purposes answering to our iconic moronic Dolan. The Coach usually is involved in personel decisions anyway so Isiahs imput is always there. There could be a silant advisor in the back ground over seeing all of this so ISiah does not further sabatage any future by trying to save his ass this week by trading future assets.

Thats my take. This is a mess that is not going away unless dolan writes the big check and they both depart at the same time. That allows a new beginning. You don't let Marbury eat yet another coach and let him stay. That would tear the team apart.

Nalods suggestion.

Tank. Gonna happen anyway. Season tickets are all in for now and a draft pick gives hope. We address corp. seats in the spring for renewel purpose. Oh, and get a good pick.

In April Fire Isiah and banish Marbury to Italy. He does not understand english so he should be fine not understanding another language. They don't have much in "trucks" over their and his wife should be happier.

Before Season tix deposits are due hire a president of stature for the Garden. Not a basketball person but a reputable name. Get a "Jack Welch" kind of starphuch exec to help sell the cesspool MSG. IT brings in a structure of decision making and the formulation of a plan. Im not sure who but it does not need to be a 80 year old guy either. Peter Uberoth would have been a good name but he might be aged out. Someone LIKE him.

Then unleash Grunwald as the GM for now. Forget the Raptors, the guy had owners and Vince Carter to deal with and was a mess. He is a civic minded guy who is multi talented and can get the job done. This does not have to be permanent but I think the guy can fulfil a plan. Like I said, he has well rounded skills. Good GM's learn form past mistakes.

With Isiah gone fire Aguire and Suhr, and any other of his minions! They might be ok guys, but lets face it, they did not do anything special.

You either give the gig to Herb or set him free to persue others.

Or.....

Hire Tom Thibidou how ever you spell it after a successful Celtic run. He is a former knick assistant and a real up and comer. Hire Ewing as the head assitant. If being no. 2 is good enough for BOB McAdoo, its good enough for him. He is not head coach material yet. Pat either gets the gig in 4 years when we burn out Tom or he is recognized for his efforts and success here and gets a gig elsewhere. But he can control the remaining eggheads we got. Zeddy needs leadership.

That helps the image and we get Mayo or another top guard in the draft.

IT will take time and money to clean this up but Dolan got to sell tickets and a new beginning.

Starphuching sounds great but you can't import a culture of good decisionmaking, it must be created. With my uber-cred president you get a start and you box out Dolan, who looks smart for making such a hire! Our culture we like to demonize and lay blame. Dolan is not going out in a blaze of shame so its better to find a solution that makes him look good and let him feel good about it. He is willing to write checks which makes him a good owner. That is a strenght we should not want to replace with a new owner who has a big note to pay! Dolan will be praised. I can live with that if our team becomes respectable.

Knick basketball can restored to glory but this chapter needs rewritten into a broadway comedy as its in my eyes the largest professional sports failure in the history of all pro sports. The money and ignorance applied to this franchise will be studied for years in MBA schools across the land for decades as THE case study demonstrating failure.

That will be Isiahs lasting executuve legacy.

I like the names you mentioned. Get a braintrust that agrees on a plan and a direction and give them time and resources.

I would allow EX-KNICK Kiki Vanderweigh to be the GM and get one of the Mavericks Assistants(Paul Westphal-Mario Elie) as head coach and start there.

We need to bring in guys who have won something and have been around winning organizations

Ewing like isiah specialize in one thing, ewing SPECIALIZED in teaching bigmen(yao-howard) and Isiah SPECIALIZED in scouting college talent.

JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

can we get Dave Checketts back, or did he have the falling out when Dolan came in?

I don't see how this team can change with Jim Dolan involved. Granted, the Rangers have turned it around very nicely, and might be headed the right direction.

I think Dolan giving Isiah the OK to get Zach is the last straw- and if the team isn't in the play offs this year, that's it- and that's good.

Dolan fired checketts. That was really his first real bad mistake.

That and charles should have aborted the child.

Checkets is with the St. Louis Blues I think.

and lmao @ Nalod.
DLee is the best thing to happen to NY in Isiah's 4 year tenure. And that alone, though a positive on the radar, is sad as hell.

Dolan wanted to be Mark Cuban and essentially replaced Checketss with himself and Mills as the figurehead. The problem with hiring someone to run the Garden is that he's running the Garden. That's why Stern needs to approach Charles Dolan to appoint someone to run the thing.

The Rangers were able to figure out a way to bring youth and talent to the organziation and shed some salary after a long period of starphucking. So maybe there's hope, but I feel like Dolan is less involved with them.

They didn't figure it out. It was forced upon them with the Lockout and Salary Cap that came with the new CBA.

I think it's critical to have a good GM who also has enough authority to stand up to Dolan and refuse some of his ridiculous demands. Dolan should not be involved in decision making.

That, and a good coach and a good working relationship between the coach and GM should get us out of this mess.

I also like the idea of bringing more of the old Knicks back to the organization, to re-establish continuity.

Oh, and bring Marv Albert back too.

Dolan don't understand Hockey. HE starphuched with russians and learned otherwise. Sather gives good head also!

THe strike helped the Rangers as well as a pretty strict cap. They got to clean house and rebuild.
There are fewer guys to starphuch with now a days.

Yes it was but it was forced on all NHL and Rangers made the transition much better and faster that anybody.
They get lucky with many prospects but the plan to build the new culture and image was outstanding and was executed perfectly.
They get right leaders and best possible coaching stuff. Dolan is not involved because it is no need for this - it's just as good as anybody can imagine.
