Ok, so here we are, another off-season with nothing to look forward to. We got Chucky doing his usual JVG bashing (can't believe y'all still bother to answer) and the whole NY Knicks franchise sulking in a corner. We all understand that LayDUMB is going to somehow screw up the pick, so we're looking at another losing season next season. Even if he doesn't, odds are we're not going to get the next Amare in this year's 9 slot...

At the very least, if Dolan and LayDUMB hadn't been IGNORANT enuff to sign Non Chaney to these incredibly stupid extensions, we could've been in the hunt for a good coach. If they couldn't upgrade the roster, they could've at least upgraded the coach (not too difficult considering the waste we have as our "Head Coach"). Any one of the coaches available would be a VAST AND IMMEDIATE improvement. A good/great coach is also a valuable chip when negotiating a trade or with a FA. I have no way of knowing, but I'd bet dollars to donuts that NO ONE in this league (Except maybe Allan Housless) would go out of their way to play for Non Chaney.

Let me ask you this: Why would a good coach want to coach in NY right now with the players and salary situation they've got going on? Gotta fix one before you can get the other.

yup, he would have to be a desperate coach, which in turn leaves you with the question.. Why would we want him then?

I think some coaches may be attracted to the possibility of turning around one of the NBA's marquee franchises. Then there's always the MONEY! I see what you mean, don't get me wrong. I don't see us having ONE player to attract a Larry Brown, for example. On the other hand, he WAS willing to coach the Clippers, back in the day!

But I think a bigger problem might be that most truly good coaches want a big hand in the decision-making process and player-personnel movement. I'm inclined to believe that LayDUMB isn't willing to cede that. That's where a yes-man like Chaney comes in.

But... if this franchise is EVER going to start moving in the right direction, it has to start somewhere. It'd be easier to bring in a good coach than to move this whole inane roster.

Hey, man, unless I've been sleeping too long (a distinct possibility), NOTHING has been done in Knicksville to change the pessimistic outlook.

This post here is really the chicken and the egg. Lemme flip it and ask y'all why any good PLAYER would want to come here? Having a coach with some stature could be the difference.

Besides, the only thing we can ask is to have a chance, be it at a title, a player or a coach. With Non tying up the coaching spot with undeserved extension after undeserved extension, we can't even make a pitch at a good coach. If Non wasn't here, would you guys be saying that because the team sucks we shouldn't try to get a Brown, Carlisle(sp) or whoever? Even Dunleavy (who I think is also horrible) is a better coach than Non Chaney.

I just can't understand a floundering franchise locking itself up time and time again (see Housless' contract as exhibit 1) with assets that are not worth the money and time they assign to it.

These extensions to Chaney just killed me. Here's a 'coach' (and I use the term VERY loosely) who for SEVEN years couldn't get a nibble at another Head Coach position and only lucked into one when JVG's resignation pretty much forced MSG to hire from within. So what does NY do with a coach that nobody wants, and keeps losing on top of that? They EXTEND him.

(TWICE!!)

(TWICE!!)

Now the best crop of available coaches in some time comes along, and MSG can't even make a run at one cuz they're committed to a worn-out retread who nobody else would even hire, let alone EXTEND! Forget whether the coach would come or not. The bottom line is MSG can't even TRY to sucker one in!

NEC, excellent points man. Chaney is a has been. get rid of him adn bring in Carlisle now. NY needs the discipline that Carlisle's Pistons had. They need to get back to D. Like Detroit they did not have the talent to run.

In truth, I am not on the Carlisle bandwagon, I'd rather have anyone coach NY than NON CHANEY! I like Rick because he is young and until Detroit he was known as an OFFENSIVE coach! He obviously can do both, and he knows that DEFENSE and team play wins. Chaney ahs taken a Knick team that was top in D and made them at best middle of the pack!

JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

Chaney is perfect for this team. If you have a contender then thats a different story. No coach worth anything would want this roster... you either have to hire an assistant or college coach. The big names will go to teams that have a shot at the title, AND will pay. This is the least of our worries.

hehehe

How the hell should I know? I heard it in a song somewhere and liked the line!

On the other hand, it COULD apply to Knick fans, since we hate the same team we root for. Just thought of that, swear to god! LOL
