Santana is a no brainer, but I wouldn't sell the farm for him since I believe he will still want to test the market when he becomes a free agent after next year. If they do trade for him, they better lock him up.
Tejada is a nice replacement and I think would be a good pickup since they can probably get him at a reasonable cost since the Orioles want to get rid of him and the $32M they still owe him.
Hunter would be a big addition defensively and he's better offensively than Cabrera. I worry about the miles he's put on his legs in the Metrodome. I think he breaks down a lot sooner because of that. He's 32 now and I can see 3 good years before the injuries start happening. They can move him to a corner OF spot but you're paying the premium because of his defense. I don't think it'll be a Giambi situation but I wouldn't go past 5 years with maybe a club option for a 6th.
Starphuckin yes, but with starting pitching like that and lots of money coming off their payroll within the next year or two, they can afford to spend it. As long as it makes sense. And I think those guys make sense.
It's a better use of money than the $242 mil they offered A-Rod!
Santana, Hunter and Tejada next year for what they paid ARod and Clemens this year.
I wouldn't trade Joba or Hughes for Santana though. I'd feel him out to see if he still wanted to test the free agent market after next year. If he was adamant on it, I'd wait and just throw a truck load of money at him. But if it cost Hughes, I wouldn't trade Joba, so be it. They need a #1 ace and he's the best.
If it didn’t work in Phoenix with Nash and Stoutamire... it’s just not a winning formula. It’s an entertaining formula, but not a winning one. - Derek Harper talking about D'Antoni's System
