Another capacity crowd of more than 19,000 is expected for tonight’s game at the Garden against the Orlando Magic. It would mark the first time the Knicks have sold out their first three games since the 2001-2 season, when they sold every ticket to every home game.
Playing in front of so many fans this early in the season probably feels unfamiliar to the Knicks. At the start of last season, apathy reigned. Only 2 of the first 13 games were sellouts, although the Knicks did sell out 17 of their last 20 games.
Three seasons ago, the Knicks averaged 19,516 fans a game. Two seasons ago, the average was down to 18,931 and last season it dipped to 18,805, the lowest in 15 years. The Knicks sold out 22 games at home last season, when their record was 33-49. For the moment, at least, the trend is ticking upward.

Early season momentum feeds the electricity at The Garden. Suddenly, the crowd is energized by the effort shown on the floor.
“You could just see the crowd get so much into it with Eddy,” Jonathan Supranowitz, the Knicks’ vice president of public relations, said. “Then they started chanting Eddy’s name, which I think they might have only done once since he’s been here. It was tremendous.”
Win or lose, can the Knicks build a "playing personality" for the season in November?
.... or is it too early for such a discussion of a distinctive team style?
