Bulls GM Paxson shoots down reports that Kobe may wind up in Chicago

DEERFIELD, Ill. (AP) -- Kobe Bryant won't be joining the Chicago Bulls anytime soon.

General manager John Paxson basically squashed the notion that the Los Angeles Lakers' superstar will wind up in Chicago, saying the teams were never on the verge of a deal and talks were over for now.

"There's not a deal done," he said Thursday. "There's not going to be a deal done. All the things that were out there were really unfair to all of us who were trying to do our jobs. The misinformation ... I think gets in the way of the process. It's just such a complicated thing and we kind of put it to rest now."

Paxson's comments came a day after a flurry of rumors. Speculation picked up Wednesday, with one report saying the Bulls, Sacramento Kings and Los Angeles Lakers were discussing a three-way deal that would bring the superstar to Chicago.

That scenario had Paxson sending Ben Gordon and a signed-and-traded P.J. Brown to Sacramento, Chicago's Ben Wallace and the Kings' Ron Artest heading to Los Angeles and the Bulls landing Bryant.

Bryant drew some boos during introductions before the Lakers' season-opening 95-93 loss to Houston on Tuesday, after calling the front office a mess and asking to be traded during the offseason. The jeers turned to cheers as Bryant scored 18 of his 45 points in the fourth quarter to lead a comeback.

The trade deadline isn't until February, so it's possible talks between the Lakers and Bulls could resume.

"Who knows?" Paxson said. "The reality is that right now, it's done."

Paxson was concerned the issue would become a distraction, so he decided to put it to rest.

"I think today sends a message to our players that nothing's going to be done," he said.

Isiah could give away the store to placate the fans and buy more time.

That given the Lakes rape us and we promise to extend Kobe beyond reason.

If any of those BS trade rumors had actually gone down and the league let it pass then I would have joined Playa in conspiracy-ville!

Obviously there was something to all of these rumors or Paxson wouldn't have waited until now to come out and put his own players at ease. I think Paxson saw the performance of his team last night, especially Gordon, and realized he didn't want to break up a good thing. Even though the Bulls lost last night, I think that team is really special. However, they do need an inside scorer and should focus on acquiring that instead of Kobe who will cost them too much.

And opposite of that is why I hate Isiah Thomas. Every time Isiah opens his mouth, **** pours out. I miss Dave Checketts when he used to come on WFAN and honestly tell us what was going on with the Knicks. Now everything is one big coverup. Dolan should know the more he and Isiah cover up, the more the media will go in search of stories.

I think the statement really means is that it won't be a public event.

Pax has to get his team together and he is right to shut it down.

For now.

The thing is Kobes contract is a monster and it goes with him if traded, which is what he wants to happen.

With few options the lakes would be smart to pull it back and see what happens.

While I can live with Kobe here there has to be a plan to have the right kind of team around him.

Other than prolong Isiahs career here and it being a Starphuch, it must have teeth to it otherwise its just an entertainment ploy to keep knicks fans stareing at the shiny thing while the team stews in mediocrity.

We'd have t pay a heavy price and after that bright idea to rebuild around a mental midget stumpy surley Starbury, can we really afford to rebuild the Lakes?

Actually, I think we have so much youth that we can actually give some up for Kobe and still be ok. I had a trade that worked-

Crawford, Curry, Fred Jones, and Robinson(if you wanted to you could throw in Balkman or Chandler and it would still work) for Kobe. We would still have Lee, Morris, Collins, Chandler/Balkman(or Both) and our pick this year. This would be a great move to placate the win now while still rebuilding crowd.

Randolph and Lee in the front court, I like it SO much better than Curry and Randolph.

Randolph
Lee
Balkman
Kobe
Steph

Richardson, Chandler, Morris, Collins, Jefferies, Rose off the bench. James puts the roster at 12.

Now you can sign some low cost free agents to round out the roster(some good guys for leadership or young talent are out there:
Youth-Dahntay Jones, Troy Bell, Jay Williams, Frankie
Vets-Dale Davis, David Wesley, Jim Jackson.
