Cavs Sign Demetris Nichols
October 29, 2007 - 5:57 pm
RealGM Staff Report -

The Cleveland Cavaliers have signed guard/forward Demetris Nichols to a contract, Cavaliers General Manager Danny Ferry announced today. Per team and league policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Nichols, 23, played in five preseason games for the New York Knicks and averaged 4.8 points on .571 (8-14) shooting including .667 (4-6) from three-point range in 7.8 minutes per game. He was originally selected by the Portland Trail Blazers with the 53rd overall pick in the 2007 NBA Draft. He was then traded to the Knicks on draft day in exchange for a 2008 second round selection. He was waived by the Knicks on October 25.

The 6-foot-8, 216-pounder led the Big East in scoring last season when he averaged 18.9 points per game and was named to the All-Big East First Team. During his four-year career with the Orange, he played in 123 games (93 starts) and averaged 10.9 points and 4.1 rebounds per game. [READ]

Not a shocker. Let's see how DNich does in the finals. As far as I'm concerned, the Cavs just moved up the playoffs ladder in my book, because that has to be an improvement into their rotation. They should at least make it to the conference finals.

The Cavs probably made this move so that LeBron would be expendable in a trade for Big Snacks. I'm not interested unless they throw in a few first rounders, though. I mean, we are talking about the KING here! KING JAMES! JEROME JAMES!

He signed just in time to kill us in the opener. I can just see it now, Lebron darts to the basket with a few seconds left. The perimeter D collapses into the lane to cut Lebron off. Lebron flips the ball out to the wing where Nichols awaits all alone. In Gus Johnson voice, "Nichols rises and fireeees, and its pure."

It'll be a while before I get over the way we botched our roster so bad that we cant keep a promising "cheap" young player like Nic.

So, wait, did Jerome give Nichols his trash bag?

I'm so ****ing glad that we traded away a future ****ing second round ****ing pick what's going to be in the god damn early thirties... while showcasing him FOR THE ENTIRE FUCKING LEAGUE and getting Cleveland a cheap ****ing replacement for Sasha Pavlovic.... but at least our ******* GM/coach/President will offer Sasha ****ing $97 million over 3 years to replace the only player who was on the roster who could hit an outside shot with any semblence of ****ing consistency.

Just as predicted. Another move that comes back to haunt the Knicks? I thought we should have kept him, and everyone figured either the Cavs or Celts would sign him.

And BTW everytime we play them I hope he lights us up for 50pts.

And some thought he should have accepted the offer to play in Europe.

Now the Cavs may be able to work a S&T with Palvlovic and another team for a pick and a TE. We find creative ways not to make our team better but every other team in the NBA.

How can anyone not like what we're doing?

We always deal from a position of zero leverage. Even when we had the leverage (Curry), we overpaid.

Just unreal. This kid will be a valuable commodity. Mark that. Isiah picked him out an showcased him, doing all the hard work for another club.

the Cavaliers have finally found the missing piece to the puzzle!

Look no further, Air Nichols to save the day!

The only question remaining is, how will LeBron adjust to taking a back seat to D-Nice?

Good luck Mike D'Antoni, 'cause you ain't never seen nothing like this before!

That's a good signing for the Cavs. It's a cheap, low risk move. If he can shoot, which is all they need from him, then he replaces Pavlovic for a fraction of the cost. If he doesn't work out then all it cost was probably a minimum contract and a roster spot

Basketball wise, I think he can really help them.

And this is all nothing that I didn't say when he was a Knick.
If it didn’t work in Phoenix with Nash and Stoutamire... it’s just not a winning formula. It’s an entertaining formula, but not a winning one. - Derek Harper talking about D'Antoni's System

At least he ended up with a good organization and in a good situation. Hopefully he plays for along time and has lots of success. At least Isiah got to show him who the boss was.
