From Berman's Blog:

I'm told the Knicks hope Nichols signs for one year, then they bring him in next season. Hopefully Nichols won't be bitter. The Knicks only traded for his rights, with the agreement he'd play in Treviso, Italy. But Nichols got a new agent and that fell apart. He's a good kid and a good player, though not as all-around as Fred Jones.

Didn't know this- and it adds some logic to the situation. Still doesn't mean they should've cut him b/c he outplayed some of the dead weight on this roster.

And who do you think Berman got that from? Directly from the spin doctors at MSG perhaps? The same people who told him about how great ticket sales are. Funny how he's the only beat guy to have reported that.

I think Isiah thought "Demetris" was some kinda exotic like euro name and he'd be happy to play back "home" in Europe!

we paid $30MM in the jalen rose deal for a late 1st rounder. I don't think it would have been unreasonable to pay $18MM for JJ to go away to keep a second rounder who demonstrated he should have been a first rounder.

At the time I think Isiah was on Dolan's good side. That may not be the case right now. Dolan could just be waiting to see how Isiah does at the end of the season before Isiah gets fired.

This is what I have been saying in the other threads, but since it doesn't fit the bill, it gets discredited. Why is it so hard to believe that Nichols said he would play in Europe, then backed out ?

I am in no way defending Thomas for keeping Big Turd or some of the other crappy Free agents, but, Nichols knew exactly what he was doing. My guess is that's why he didn't get any burn in practice or preseason.

it's very hard to argue against this point.

There is no excuse for not cutting James.

Forget about JJ for a second. It's not like there isn't other deadweight or redundant pieces on this roster. How about getting rid of Fred Jones for $3M? Or how about Malik Rose for $7M? Does anyone think that Rose is integral to the future of this team? Does anyone think he's still on the team a year from now? There were a few options if they wanted to use them but Isiah's poor management, and likely the fact that he's already bought out several players for much more money than JJ is due, caused them to have to waive a young player that they could use and throw away next years 2nd rd pick. That's just mismanagement.

I agree it's indicative of poor planning. I think Malik's contract plays a big role if we go with the assumption that they learn from their mistakes. Even if Thomas is not here, Malik expires next year along with Marbury. That's close to 30 mil coming off the books next year or possibly to use in a trade. Plus malik is not a bad guy to have around, he is definitely way more productive that Big Turd and Jared Jeffries.

regardless of whether Dolan has put isiah on notice- isn't dolan interested in basketball? doesn't he want his team to have the most assets? Is he so dumb that he can't see that Nichols could turn into a good player, and Freddy Jones a non factor? Or JJ a waste of his contract.

Dolan & Isiah are connected at the hip. Neither can admit a mistake.

Let's take marbs, Eddy, Jeffries, Craf, Big Snack, and their papa Isiah out for a second.
And here we go - magic transformation... Knicks are back and we all are lovers... except of some hard core Isiah lovers...

Not as all around translates to athletic, undersized guy with a bad jumper who plays 'd' to stay in the league.

Papabear Says

Ha Ha Ha In your bigest dreams. If this team wins some games you haters will be seeing Zeke for the next 5 years. So get used to it. I liked Nichols but he would have been unhappy here. He wants to play now.

Guys have to take it easy with this Dnic thing. We all liked the kid, but he wasn't gonna play and I think he should've played in Europe. I'm sure they made it real clear to him that his chances of sticking were slim. As much as I like what he had to offer, it's really a numbers game. I personally would've wanted the Knicks to kick Jerome to the curb and eat his salary, but that's not my money.
IN the end life will go on for this team and they'll be unaffected by his absence. I mean really he wasn't going to make a difference this year and possibly not even next year.

Steph, Jamal, Q, Nate, Balkman, Mardy, Chan, Jared, Lee, Zach, Curry etc. Once Steph is gone we'd likely still not have much room for him to play. I'm not gonna go overboard about the loss of this guy. I don't like it, but it also not the end of the world.

I hope it isn't two years before we dig up this thread to prove dnic had talent- more talent than freddy jones and possibly more than crawford.

to the answer that dnic wouldn't have been happy not playing- get real, the guy was a second round pick- he was going to be happy just being on a roster in the nbdl or wearing street clothes every night.

and i'm sorry- be he probaly should have gotten floor time on this knick team. who is our 2g?

crawford w/his 32% shooting? freddy 'thank you isiah for saving me' jones? nate the add midget?

we let an athletic 2g with a smooth stroke and size go because we have who?

That's all well and good. However, when your plan falls through, you READJUST. Let's look at it:

Strategist playing the game:
Plan A falls through.
Strategist makes adjustment and begins plan B.

Isiah playing the game:
Plan A falls through.
He continues plan A (or sometimes plan Q from the planet Nebulon).

Roster is set. Lets get over this and move on. Hopefully he is not the second coming of a shooter like Houston or Hornacek (sorry for being old school). Its hard for us to give $20 to a buddy of ours so imagine how hard it is for Dolan to give the fat bum millions so he can move on and make millions somewhere else.
