Heat
Detroit
New Jersey

these are the only teams I would say are flat out better than us, and even New Jersey is a maybe but they always just seem to own us.

I'd say we are evenly matched with Boston and Chicago and flat out better than Washington, Cleveland, Orlando and everyone else.

This means we should be in the playoffs at either the 4th spot or the 6th spot. Thats my prediction. Interestingly enough, there wont be much difference between those spots in terms of the quality of the team that you play. Should be a really interesting season.

i wouldn't get carried away by a few preseason victories. I think chicago is hands down better than us, boston is better than us, cleveland is probably better than us, washington and orlando are about the same level now. talent wise we can say we are better than teams like cleveland but we've seen some chemistry issues with randolph and curry and within our backcourt. we have some nice pieces that seem to play well together but untli we resolve chemistry issues, maybe meaning we ship out curry and crawford, we'll probably a few games where we play well as a team and then a number of games where we just don't mesh. teams like cleveland and chicago have shown they can play together and win together, and since they are relatively young, I don't think we can say we are better than them. Boston's big 3 seem to fit together on paper and are all veteran, superstar players, so I'd give them the nod over us. if we fix some issues we can definitely be up there but im still expecting another 30-40 win season until we clear up the glut or show that we can play well as a team in a system consistently.

I think we're gonna be right there with the top teams in the East. We're not only talented and Deep, but this team is coming of age. We have guys who are confident in what they can and should be doing in this league. I can't say who we're better than, but I think we're just as good as any team in the East. We're not gonna be clearly better than the other good teams in the East, but they aren't far ahead of us either. Our upside exceeds all the other teams in the East IMO. If we get good games from our top players, I think we have the bench to put us over the top. Few teams go as deep with good talent as we do. Chicago is one team that has a lot of depth. Over the long haul I think teams like the Cavs, Bulls & Nets have the depth to be strong at the end.

It's hard to say. I agree about NJ and Detroit and Cleveland. I'm not a fan of the Heat because both of their stars are fragile. I think Boston is better and Chicago is better. After Boston, Chicago, Cleveland, Detroit and NJ, I think we have to see how we stack up to teams like Toronto, Orlando, etc. We're an improved team from last season and some of the other teams in the east are improved too, so it will take at least the first month of the regular season to sort out where we fit.

I think this season will see a major transfer of power from the West to the East.

Thats all you could come up with! Easily I will say NJ, Toronto, Boston, Detroit, Chicago, Washington, Orlando, and Miami if DWade is healthy for most of the season. Than you throw in teams like than you throw in Cleveland and other teams that usually are in the mix like Mil and Indiana I just don't see unless something drastic happens that the Knicks are going to be able to finish better than half of those teams. Also you do realize the last time the Knicks were ranked that high in the Eastern Conference was during the Clinton administration?

I think in the past we have had guys that needed events to take place in order to be motivated. An embarrassing loss, a job on the line, some criticism etc. This has led to the constant inconsistent efforts that have led to results that don't equal the talent. If the team can find a way to forget all the outside factors and focus on being motivated daily by winning, than they are as talented as almost everyone in the East. Once again talent is not the problem. No fan needs to be sold on talent.

But I agree with you Evil. The "us against the world" motivational tactic is a good one. It works if done right. But it only lasts for so long. Eventually people start getting behind you and then what do you have? To be a contender year after year you must have players motivated by winning. OUr guys hopefully can develop that mentality.

eVil - There have been many comments that have mentioned, or questioned, the Knicks team identity.

I initiated a thread with that theme in mind, searching for recent clues to that end. I used the Denver scuffle as a starting point because after the Nuggets game last season. Most thought the team was ready to implode. What happened?

The Knicks went on a a defiant run of better basketball and started to win.

The Boston 40 point loss was another opportunity for gnashing of teeth. The Knicks respond by playing more like the 1994 Knicks. I never said they WERE the 1994 Knicks.

Can you tell me where the problem in comprehension lies?

Of course you never said they were the '94 Knicks because as a Knicks fan you know that the '94 Knicks did not have to get kicked in the teeth before they started to care. In fact, they were the dudes doing the teeth kicking most of the season.

I'm glad our boys fought hard last night. I appreciate the effort. But really, I want to see the effort come from within. I want to see these guys play their asses off because they feel in their hearts that as professional athletes they should always give their all. If this team always needs to get kicked around before they wake up, we're going to have the same inconsistent team we had last year.

WHY CAN'T THEY PLAY HARD WHETHER OR NOT THEY HAVE THEIR BACKS UP AGAINST THE WALL?

So you see, I'm not eager to congratulate them because first -- I think playing hard is what they are supposed to do, second -- I'm not convinced that they will always play hard. If you knew me, you'd know that there's no one who would be happier to be wrong about this. So please, New York Knickerbockers -- PROVE ME WRONG. Play hard all year long no matter what the circumstances.

By the way, no one responded to my post (above) when it was originally posted in response to Earl -- probably because I didn't make it extreme enough. Next time, I'll be sure to throw in some extra flavor, like:

WE'RE THE WORST TEAM EVER IN ALL SPORTS OF ALL TIME IN THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE AND WATCHING THIS TEAM GIVES YOUR EYES AIDS!!!!!

That'll spur some discussion for sure...

We have no right to say the Knicks are better than the teams from last year. the Knicks have been horrid the past 7 years, let them have a winning season first before we proclaim them a top team in the EC
some Knick fans accept mediocrity as excellence .... I don't!
