The Miami Heat, reeling from the continued injury absence of Dwyane Wade and an 0-7 record in the preseason, are on the verge of a double boost to their depleted roster, according to NBA front-office sources Wednesday.

Sources told ESPN.com that the Heat will soon complete a trade with the Minnesota Timberwolves to acquire swingman Ricky Davis and center Mark Blount.

The latest incarnation of the deal, according to one source, has Miami sending Antoine Walker, Michael Doleac and Wayne Simien to the Wolves for Davis and Blount.

Minnesota initially balked at taking back Walker in the deal, sources said, but it's believed that the Heat will send the Wolves at least one future draft pick to push the trade through

Brilliant move by Riley if it's consumated. While both players are out of sorts for most of their career both are on reasonable deals and can produce very effectively on many nights. Plus the Heat get rid of the most overrated basketball player IN THE HISTORY OF THE NBA known as Antoine Walker.

To be fair, McHale doesn't even know what McHale is doing.

The moral of this story: don't piss off Pat Riley by coming into camp fat (unless you're Shaq).

Though I do have to question Riley a little bit for trading for a stiff and a knucklehead.

mchale put these players together in the past 2 years:

brewer, foye, gomes, mccants, green, jefferson, simien, smith, and 3 #1 picks.

IF a new gm came in before the 2006 draft, could they have assembled as much young talent as mchale? not saying these guys are all blue chippers but would anybody else assembled a better collection of youth?

Damn, if this goes through -- I hope Ricky's numbers don't go down. He's on my fantasy squad. I was hoping he'd be piling up stats on the crappy T-Wolves.

You better hope this trade goes down. Ricky is needed to produce right now in miami. With no wade and a old shaq, ricky might go for 20pts a night. Who else is gonna score?

By the way, about antoine walker, do you think the knicks........sorry I just threw up on my keys.

not for nothing but mchale also shaved off a year by taking on toine for blount. so the wolves will have major cap room in the summer of 2009, but two big expiring deals next summer to make a move (probably their best bet as enticing a guy to come to minny may be tough). only contract that extends past 2 years is now jaric.

miami gets 2 players that will definitely help them now...but their future looks BLEAK in another 2 years. they have to make a free agent splash b/c they really have no youth in the pipeline or picks.

It kills me how fans here try so hard to bash him, yet apologize until they faint for I SAY UGH. He made a couple mistakes.... the Joe Smith debacle and letting the vets go the following summer when they went to the WCF. Other than that he's made status quo moves here and there like most gm's but he's done a very admirable job rebuilding his team. They'll have a chance at someone like Hibbert next yr and they'll be a force in the next 3yrs. A Jefferson/Hibbert front court is about as good as you can get.

mchale should've been fired 7 years ago. his tenure in gm was defined by losing steph, joe smith debacle, and a 1 year run with cassell and spree. to be fair, the owner decided not to pay to retain cassell and spree. but over the past 2 years, he didn't do such a bad job in terms of completely rebuilding the team.

I think he should have been fired over the Joe Smith situation alone because it was illegal. Letting Marbury go was a blessing. But his body of work isn't as terrible as some of us here make it out to be. So he's defined by those situations alone and not worthy of any credit for making multiple post-season appearances without any Lottery or Cap relief? Yes he created both situations but the results were as good as could be considering the circumstances. Keep in mind he lost Terrell Brandon who became Marbury's replacement to a career ending injury in which they were a 50win team during that time. If they don't face San Antonio the first round 3yrs in a row practically he'd probably be looked at a little differently. So what's the standard dj do we judge one GM by wins, the other by trades, another by cap management, another by draft selections. Why is there always so much picking and choosing when we give our input on similar matters?

Good trade by Miami. They now have a 3rd option and a 2nd.1st option when Wade is not playing. I think he is out for like the first 2 weeks of the season.

Im a fan that bashes mchale to death. He basically raped kevin garnett all these years. Never really had a plan. He had googs and terrell brandon and then it seemed like he just gave up.

One thing he did do was trade garnett when he still had about 3-5 peak years left in him. He still managed to get more than enough youth for him. He's lucky his boy danny hooked him up.

As far as isiah, I don't give isiah any excuses. Isiah did the best he could from all the garbage he had. Larry brown was his biggest mistake. All the other mistakes have basically cleared up. Jared and jerome are the only mistakes on the roster. The current vets and young guys are players we can root for.

Get off of the mike lupica trip and enjoy your team already.

The wolves fans are probably loving the guys they got....Brewer, Gerald Green? either could be ricky davis.....Ricky isn't needed in minnesota right now. They are in full blown rebuild mode.

Ricky is gonna blow up from a fantasy standpoint.

Marko Jaric is next probably.

McHale got a first round pick and better contracts. Davis and Blount did not want to be there. Davis has not been the greatest team guy and Blount hasn't been producing like he was. The trade allows the wolves to focus on their young players. Both teams got what they were looking for.
