It has occured to me that the President, GM & Coaching positions that Isiah heads, what seems like a problem, may not be the problem. I look at the players that Isiah signs and wonder, why would he sign players that bring baggage and I think I came up with an answer. Could it be the fact that Isiah comes from (not a humble neighborhood but) rough neighborhood on chicagos west side. He's had to fight his way to success (literally) and made what he could of it. Could it be that this guy signs these kinds of players, players who have had a bad rap, a hard time adjusting to society, let alone basketball? He signs Curry, who was said to have a bad heart. He took a chance, even though Curry hasn't really panned out (at least not yet), he's signed Zach, who brings a rap sheet with the law. He signs Nate, who probably reminds himself of 'himself'. He signs Allan Houston and invites him to make the team, someone who has had a lot of criticizm for taking a huge contract, only to have to retire a few years early with guaranteed money. He signed suckbury, a well criticized head case, that nobody wanted, to a long term contract and put his every trust into him to lead these teams to the playoffs and maybe even to the promised land. He's tried to sign Ron Artest, a man with a 'huge' problem sheet. He signed Jerome, a man who was said to be a wash, up until he had that big playoff series that proved to Isiah that he could be potentially great if given the chance. It seems every time he signs someone, it's someone who has had some kind of problem. So I think it's safe to say that Isiah signs guys who are virtually in 'his own image'. Someone who's had to struggle and fight to survive. Someone who took full advantage of the chances he was given and so he believes that if a player who is in need, all he needs is a chance to prove himself. I been thinking about this and was wondering why he would sign these guys. I mean it just doesn't seem like Isiah has really gone after players agressively enough that are proven stars. It's not impossible to make a plan where you can set up some kind of blockbuster deal in a year or two. If the money had been there, it would not of been impossible to whoo players like LeBron or Garnett or even Kobe by now to the Knicks. I don't see the effort there, when it comes to looking for big name players. I see him aggressivly going after players who simply need a chance. I kept asking myself why the baggage? The question is, is this the reason why we have the team we do and is it plausible to be in the market to help players who have hard lives? Players who are lost souls? It's all well said and done, that's great if your a charity organization, but do we want our team to be the refugee camp it has turned into? It would be phenominal if he could build a team that has been thourgh so much, have had so much bad luck to come together and win it all. A dream come true. But beyond basketball, I have to ask if we should be saving players souls, rather than building a legitimate team, a ligit winner in NYC? We have turned into a 'chance taker' of an organization. We have gone off the beat'n path of logical basketball to save souls. I for one, as a life time Knick fan am not for that. What about you guys? Do any of you's see the same thing?
