Beat Boston

“We want to be respectful to him and let him give it a shot, and give him an honest shot,” Thomas said of Houston. “And if he’s capable of contributing, it would be a huge plus for us.”

The speculation on Demetris Nichols, a second-round pick - or any of the players on the proverbial bubble - is still only speculation.

7 Up

“He’s deserving of this chance and this opportunity, and I’m giving it to him,” Thomas said. But that clout will not be enough to win him a roster spot. “Only what you do on the floor gives you clout,” Thomas said.

"My family has already sacrificed enough, even for me to get to this point," he said. "My victory is being on this practice court today. Now I can say, 'I'm healthy.' That to me is what I feel good about. Now, my goal and challenge is to help this team right now. And if I can't do that, I'm going to enjoy being with my kids, being with my family.

"To me, I feel like this is my one bullet. This is my shot to play again. As an athlete you want to know you left because you weren't productive anymore or you just didn't want to. If I'm not productive enough to help, then I don't need to be one of those 15. They don't deserve it."

"The good thing is the court will tell the truth," Thomas said. "You prove yourself out on the court and you play your way in and you play your way out."

"Better than I felt two years ago," said Houston, tempering his optimism by adding that he's "happy to get through the day."

"I'm really more focused on where I'm going to fit in and help right now than what goes on with my body," Houston said.

Demetris Nichols (personal reasons) missed practice .

The Knicks waived rookie Roderick Wilmont, paring the roster to 19 players .

Thomas said he's "very pleased and impressed" with the offseason work Jared Jeffries put in, although it's been rewarded with only 19 minutes in the two preseason games. "Nineteen good minutes," Thomas said.

Isiah stated, "It's not Nichols and Fred Jones," Thomas said. "We're trying to put together a 15-man roster and, by the way, I like Fred a lot. I drafted him in Indiana, so don't plan on him going anywhere anytime soon."

Based on these comments, it seems that Isiah has made up his mind to make cuts elsewhere.

Who gives a damn about Demetrius Nichols? He looked good in summer league, but he also looked very one dimensional and had all the characteristics of a black hole.

I don't think he is as good as Matt Carrol or Matt Barnes, and if he ever is as good as they, it will be several years before that happens.

If he earns a spot on the team he will be here. Second round picks get cut before their rookie seasons all the time.

Ain't nothing hinging on Nichols. If he has trouble finding a job he will learn a valuable lesson about playing hardball with no leverage.

Good luck Mike D'Antoni, 'cause you ain't never seen nothing like this before!

dj - if Mark Aguirre told Isiah what I think he told him after Las Vegas, Nichols will receive a fair, critical look in more than a few pre season games.

Ain't it better to have more difficult roster decisions than debating the relative value of Felton Spencer versus Travis Knight?

it better be Turd & Jefferies who get cut then... if IT cuts Houston just so he can hold onto 1 of his busted FA signings, that's reason enough for him to be fired (not that he hasn't earned it anyway at this point).
After 7 years & 40K+ posts, banned by martin for calling Nalod a 'moron'. Awesome.

Brian Greene was the white dude right? He was good, and I agree with you, he was as good or better than Nichols.

Hey, I got an idea! Let's start bitching about Isiah not picking up Greene non-stop!

End of bench players are not worth getting worked up for.

Better than Clyde's "throwback" suits?

I don't think so

sounds like some cats are already starting to spin isiah's screwing up things with nichols because of all the guaranteed contract deadweight on this 33-win roster.

Nah, Greene was the dude with the trendy black and gold Nike's. He was automatic from outside.

But he don't get to be captain before The Mayor

Marv - you couldn't tell the difference between "spin" and good old-fashioned entertaining quick wit if it hit you in the face like a shaving foam custard pie on SportsCenter after a no-hitter

I think I remember who you are talking about...I remember another guy banging medium range J's for the Knicks, but I don't remember his sneaks.

If we are to get excited about Summer League play, we should all be very psyched about Nate Robinson!
