Does anybody else think that Isiah is badmouthing Nichols and not giving him any run, in order to drop his stock so low that no NBA team will pick him up and put him on their roster? If that were to happen, and Nichols was forced to go play in Europe, would the Knicks then retain his rights?

When would the Knicks lose Nichols' rights if they don't sign him and put him on their roster?

I think IT knows there is no way Nichols is going to make it, so why give him 20 minutes a game. Jones is clearly more ready to play right now and I don't think the Knicks would let Houston sign just to cut him for Nichols.

As soon as the knicks signed Dnic to a contract, guaranteed or not, as soon as they cut him afterwards the rights to the player drafted are cut as well.

So no, if the Knicks wanted to force DNic's hand they shouldn't have signed him (GS tried something along those lines with some pg 2nd round pick, name escapes me, didn't work)

So basically Isiah screwed up by signing him to a contract, knowing roster spaces were going to be hard to come by.

I think he is. I think he's also talking up Jones so he can move him.

He is. He is willing to sacrifice his draft guru status to punish Nichols for not accepting a contract to Europe. Nichols did great in the summer league, was touted as a steal, and a contributor for this year. Now he is going to be cut because of Thomas's enormous ego. I think he will be the next Kyle Korver or better. The Knicks will have another Thomas move to regret if he cuts Nichols. The roster problem is truly self created by Thomas. Thomas has a tremendously large ego and I think he was offended that Nichols did not go along with his plan. However, Nichols showed that he is ready to play in the NBA. I think Nichols suffered from the Anucha decision. In my opinion Thomas now feels the need to show that he is in charge and Nichols is going to be his sacrifice. Overall I do not care for Thomas but I think he is an incredible judge of young talent and does great in the draft. His giving up a future second rounder is truly a loss if he is drafting.

I agree with most of this. The last parts I have reservations about. This setting up the draft, so he can draft in the second round' to find a steal? It's just crazy. No other GM wheels and deals or drafts like this. Non at all!
I'll never trust this' team again.

If Isiah releases him at the deadline, and he gets signed by another team & stashed in the NBDL- the answer is a definitive yes.

He showed in summer league that he has a shot of becoming something in the NBA- I think another team will take a shot and sign him- cheap.

Is Isiah working on a potential trade? that is the only explanation for holding him.

Dat's da bitness homie! If one wants a "nice guy" one should go find the Jr Woodchucks. Perhaps a big brother program.

Is Donald Trump a scumbag? How about Stern? How about the president? Booo hooo. It's dog eat dog world. It's cut throat. Didn't start wit Isiah....won't end with him.

Wow. You have earned the most ridiculous Isiah defense of the week award! Congratulations! All of your homies will be proud.

Even though out of Allan Houston, Nichols, and Fred Jones, Jones is the worst option, he appears likely to be the one to make the team. That doesn't bother you? Who ever said the Isiah tenure was about winning? Let's never again revel in this myth.

Crawford, Morris, Nicholas for Ron Artest is a good trade that should be looked into, we badly need another defender on this team, and we don't need fred jones playing. That also clears up roster space and cap space......if we have to throw in our first round pick it's addition by subtraction

Competent and intentially "scumbagging" a person is different. I'm not saying he's a great GM all I'm saying is that I'm sure Nichols came into this association (like every player should) knowing that it's dog eat dog. That's a given. Players and coaches and GM's get thrown under the bus all the time. I'm sure it's gonna happen to Isiah one day too. I can care less about fair. I want to see some wins this season. Period! Fair or unfare. Sh*t, I think it's unfair that Riles let Stan VanGundy develop the team to a certain point then releaved him of his job once the team starting looking like something. Fair woulda been to let VanGundy finish what he started as a coach. But ask Heat fans did they want fair or wins? F&ck dat! I wanna see some wins right now. I don't care who's on the court. Screw it!

Huh???? The question was about intentionally scumbagging this particular player. I say all is fair in this biz. Always has been. Question isn't about "tenure".
