Hey, why can't Nichols be sent to the D-League? If the Knicks were to keep him, he would likely not get any playing time anyway. So at least he can play in D-League and if guys get hurt or they need him mid season he will be ready to go.

Why is it that it's either he's on the team or gone? Can Jared Jordan be sent to the D-League as well? And why do the Knicks not own their own D-League team? It makes sense for them since they spend so much money anyway. Also, they can televise their own D-League games on MSG. It would be like getting to watch AAA games all the time and see the players in your farm system. MSG has the worst programming ever.

Apparently D-League players still take up a roster spot. So we still have to trim the roster to 15. We can't have a 18 man roster while stashing 3 in the D-League. Ewingsglass posted the rules earlier in another thread.

Why can't we just sent D-Nic to the D-League?

Still counts as a roster spot...

Really?

Unfortunately, yes. All it accomplishes is allowing a player to play more minutes competitively.

I really hate that rule, they should change it to how baseball does it. Each NBA team have their own NBDL team filled with their players, if a player is sucking then send him down and call up someone else, let players rehab down there, etc.

I'm telling you ... this would make the NBA even more fun to watch. lets take Chandler for an example ... he's not gonna get any big minutes this season, let him work on his game in the NBDL.
some Knick fans accept mediocrity as excellence .... I don't!

If that was the case NCAA would lose more players leaving early and STERN is still in bed with them

The rule has nothing to do with Stern... the only way the Player's Association would agreed to the league is if the player's still got paid like they were in the NBA, as opposed to having a minor league contract or a two way contract. The only way to have players getting paid like they were in the NBA was to have these players remain on the active roster.

Seriously it's all done to keep teems with a lot of money from garbing all future prospects.
Teams should have hard cap not luxury tax.
Like no more that 80 million in contracts per year and then do whatever you want.
This will drive incompetents GM's out of the league.
So if some team want a lot of prospects do not sign or trade for overpaid vets. Then owners will think to invest in 5 promising young players instead of junk like Marbs, JJ, and JJ1 or uninsured players like Eddy and Q.

So... what's the obstacle for Nichols signing w/ a team in Europe? Is it that their season has already started - is it that by signing Nichols to a contract, we can't retain his rights if he doesn't make the cut?

I believe the Knicks lose his rights because they already signed him to a contract for training camp.

Yeah. That's why Thomas said that ship had sailed. We are going to lose Nichols.
