"I would certainly listen," Buss told Lakers beat writers on Wednesday. "At any time, I think you have to do that with anybody. It's just part of the game, to listen to somebody who has a dissatisfied player that you think is going to fit. You can't keep too many loyalties. You've got to look at it as a business. He looks at it the same way I look at it."

Could this mean Kobe will be gone during the season. If so, do the Knicks even have a chance to get him?

If we try to get Kobe, Curry would have to be included in any trade package.

The writing looks to be on the wall. Phil Jackson likely isn't going to return next season, Mitch Kupchak sits on his hands and also made that thoroughly moronic Caron Butler/Kwame Brown trade.

Problem is - where is Kobe going to get traded to where the receiving team won't end up getting gutted? Sure, when a talent like Kobe is on the market, you do what you have to do but you also have to think long-term also. Kobe's 29, yeah, but he's an old 29 (12 years in the league).

For Kobe, everybody is available. I think he wants to Chicago though.

Silverfuel, that's what he wants the media to think but honestly in his heart, he wants to come to NY. HE wants to be the highlight and main attraction in NY city. Everyone is definitely avaiable but you heard what Buss said.

He wants comparable talent in return.
Other than Curry or Zach, i don't see anyone else as the main piece to a Kobe trade..

how about Curry, D Lee, Q Rich, Chandler, Jamal & a 2-1st round picks for Kobe, Rado & Bynum?

then trade Jones, Nate & Nichols for Artest

C - Bynum / Morris / Turd
PF - Zach / Radmanovich / Malik
SF - Artest / Balkman / Jefferies
SG - Kobe / Houston / Russell
PG - Marbury / Collins / Jordan

I know kobe is kobe, but i think curry dlee and jamal would leave the team weaker.

Kobe made it known he didn't like playing with Bynum, and you can't include Houston is any roster rotation. At most he is 12 minute decoy to keep the defense honest.

Can Kobe coexist with Marbury?

Here's a better question: would Kobe be able to coexist with the MSG crowd and the vulturesque media when things are going not so good?

LA Sports Fans and NYC sports fans are like night and day. No indifference here.

Kobe & Marbury seemed to have a lot of love for each other when he was on his talk show... & come on man, do u think Marbury would cause friction w/the best player in the game if he ever came here? he's only got 1 year left on his deal anyway, so his days here are numbered regardless... & he didn't make it known that he didn't like playing w/Bynum, he made it known that Bynum still had a long way to go to develop into the player he could be & that he wasn't willing to wait around through another rebuild... after that trade is made, Kobe would be in a better situation to contend IMHO.

If you're going to trade for Kobe then Curry can't be included in the deal especially if they get Bynum in return and Kobe doesn't want to be with Bynum. I think Isiah is looking to make a move for Kobe that is why he is stacking the team with young players. If a trade is made it probably includes a couple of number 1 picks, Crawford, Lee, Mardy and Chandler. If I'm the Lakers and knowing Kobe wants out I make this deal. Bulls probably won't include picks and a deal for Kobe leaves them devoid of talent so basically Kobe is going to be in the same hole as he is with the Lakers. And the fact that the Bulls think they are close also nullifies the deal with the Bulls and Lakers. Isiah should be ready to deal once the middle of the season rolls around.

you also gotta factor in matching up salaries too tho... & the Lakers will probably want to unload Rado's contract in the deal also i'd imagine

IMO it is between us and Chicago. No other team has the combination of expiring contracts and young talent that would also have enough talent left after the trade to allow Kobe to win now.

I agree. People can laugh all they want about how ludicrous an idea it is for the Knicks to get Kobe, but I'm sticking to my guns from earlier this year. Kobe will be a Knick says Miss Cleo.

You gotta include either Curry or Zach with a couple of young guys and draft picks in the deal. Kobe is the best shooting guard in the NBA and he is a legit superstar. We haven't had a superstar on this team since Patrick Ewing

We need a consistent inside/outside game on this team. ALA, Shaq/Wade from 2 yrs ago!

Any deal with Kobe might include Marbury based on his contract.

Here is what Kobe's response was:

"Dr. Buss's comments today provided more insight to a conversation we shared in Barcelona earlier this summer," Bryant said in a statement issued Thursday. "I have touched on this conversation and other conversations within the Lakers' organization during the recent months and again at the Lakers' media day. I have nothing further to add and look forward to the upcoming season with my teammates."

i think the lakers would demand either curry or zach, and given that they have bynum already i think theyd rather take zach. hopefully that means we can hold on to lee, and give them a package like zach, balkman, crawford, mardy, and a pick for kobe and vlad rad or turiaf. that still leaves us with

C: Curry/Morris
PF: Lee/vladrad or turiaf/JJ
SF: Q/Chandler/JJ
SG: Kobe/Houston
PG: Marbury/Nate/Jordan

I'd do that but I don't think they would.

If they do that deal, looking at it from the perspective of the team last season, we'll have lost Francis, Frye, Balkman, Craw, Mardy and a pick for Kobe, Vlad/Turiaf and Jones. In terms of players of value, we'd be losing Balkman, Craw and Mardy (and of course a pick). Since Balkman and Mardy didn't play that much, we're replacing Craw with Kobe. Not a bad upgrade.

That would be my ultimate dream at this point. Isn't it ironic. Kobe's name finally comes up and Isiah goea out and re-signs that mother ****'n Houston! Jesus Christ!!!
I'll never trust this' team again.

The biggest impact on whether we get Kobe will be whether this team starts winning games. Players always look better when they are on winning teams. If the Lakers see our player winning at plus .500 rate, they will be far more interested in our pieces. If we are losing, the Lakers are going to look to Chicago for a deal.
