I hated (but respected) Isiah the player.
I still get goosebumps when they replay "bird stole the ball, bird stole the ball!!!" |

Bernard king was a great player, if he played today, he would average 35ppg. Isiah was one of the greatest players and competitors in the game, I remember wathcing that game as a teenager, some of the greatet sports moments in my life, besides the yankees dynasty.....

Posted by tkf: Yes I remember watching that game too. I was in my bedroom and my brother was in there and he was lighting some candle thing on fire and it caught my desk/hutch and nearly burned down my room. This was going on during the game and I was so transfixed on the TV that I wasn't paying attention to my pyro brother. Anyway, BK was favorite Knick and I had a healthy respect for Isiah. Actually I really liked all NBA players back then except for the Celtics. Probably hated the Sixers too but loved their arena announcer. Remember him? Julius Errrrrrvviinngg. Bobby Jooooooonneess. Maurice Cheeeeeeeekkss. Moses Maaaaaaaaalloooooonnee. Ahhhh those were the days when the NBA was great. I remember my parents would drag me into the city on the weekends and we'd go out to eat and I would watch those classic CBS Sunday afternoon NBA games on TV at the restaurant we were at. Of course the greatest moment in sports during the 80's was the 86 World Series. http://majorleads.blogspot.com

Hey you "old timers" will appreciate this. My favorite BBALL intro was always CBS during the 80's. Brent Mussberger was great and the theme music was awesome. Really set the scene for the game.

LOl.. my son and I were watching the lakers/ pistons championship on NBA TV classics yesterday, and he was like man, Isiah was great, and he almost fell out of his chair when he saw Byron scott play, it is funny how these kids forget that most of these guys were at once young and played ball. All he remberes is byron scott, the nets and Hornets coach... anyway, he was like, man dad, all of those guys could play and shoot. And i was like yea, guys like worthy, cooper, Dumars, Isiah, bird, all of those guys were great ballers, they played the game the right way.. winning actually mattered!! Posted by tkf:Posted by majorleads:Posted by tkf: Yeah I'm watching the game and look over and I see flames shooting up towards the ceiling. Luckily we were able to put it out fast. I couldn't believe my parents who were downstairs never smelled the smoke. I remember for the next few months I was scraping wax off my desk. lol The kids today are lucky they get to see those classic NBA games on TV. Whats amazing watching those classics is like you said, winning actually mattered, also the great team ball they used to play. The passing back then was incredible with players moving without the ball, setting screens, and actually hitting their outside shots. I have to admit, I hated Hubie Brown as our coach. I remember being so frustrated with his slow walk it up style because the NBA back then was run and gun with motion offense. Defensively though, Hubie was the man. Probably would have been a great coach with our 90's Knick teams. http://majorleads.blogspot.com

Posted by tkf: Actually that is not true. Last year when everyone was complaining about the refs, I went to basketballreference and looked up the amount of fouls that refs called during the 80's. What I found was, the refs called waaaaaaay more fouls back then. Yes shocking but true. Look it up. At least back then the players could make their free throws. And yes Hubie was soooo frustrating. I wanted to reach out and grab Rory Sparrow and throw him across the mid court line. I could not take him walking it up every time. You know, like Marbury does today. The Lakers were a joy to watch. Magic was the greatest. I would have loved to have seen the 90's Bulls go up against those great 80's Celtics and Lakers teams. MJ and Pippen against Magic, Worthy, Kareem, Bird, Parrish and McHale. Ohhhhh I can't believe someone such as yourself who appreciated those teams could like this Knicks team. http://majorleads.blogspot.com
