What up fam? I've been reading this site for some time now and thought I'd join in the fun.

Went to the game in Columbia last night. Quick assessments:

Zach - Best player on the floor last night. Very composed and constantly talking to the team and himself on missed opptys. Dalembert could not handle him. Reggie Evans begged Mo Cheeks to allow him to switch. Mo kept blowing him off.

Steph - Played good D on Andre Miller. When Jamal or Nate was on him, he was in the lane at will. When Steph or Zach was out of the game, it was mass chaos.

D Lee - played like D Lee. Was impressive.

Nate - Didn't bring much last night. Seemed uncertain a lot of times. Had some nice drives to the rim though

Crawford - Didn't bring anything at all

Sixers looked awful in the 1st half which contributed to our apparently good 1st half.

Welcome Rocknick. Hey did Nate play the point or the two. How did he run the point?

He played both the 1 and 2. He didn't look impressive at either one. Again, he could get to the rim at will (Louis Williams guarded him most of the night) but he didn't create any opptys for others. He didn't run the offense well at all......but it is the 1st preseason game.

I think that will be the key to his playing time. If he wants big minutes he has to D up or learn to run the point. Otherwise he's very redundant on this team.

Like you said it's only the first game so let's give him time. I'm not optimistic about him learing hte point, but you never know.

The day Nate and all the other Knick fans/critics/coaches of the world realize that Nate is not a PG and all he REALLY needs to focus on is his defense, will be the day Nate becomes a great player.

5'3" Muggsy Bogues was a great defender. Nate certainly has the ability to achieve that as well.

In the meantime, Nate and we as Knicks fans/critics/coaches are doing a disservice to Nate by expecting him to take the role of Steve Nash, when he should really just be Nate, while just expecting him to improve the defense and look for better shot selection.

Allanfan - you are correct and unfortunately he looked bad on D last nite too. Had several silly fouls reaching. I do think he can be "masked" as a point if Zeke runs him with a squad of say Q, Zach, Lee, Nichols, and Chandler. That type of squad would allow the floor to be spread and he could play to his strength - penetration. Just expect some passes to end up in the stands.

I think Nate is always going to be a guy that is known for instant offense. ON a squad that needs that he will be very valuable. For us, that role is redundant.

As for the point about him becoming a PG. I don't think people truly understand how hard it it is to learn that position. Most PG's are born that way. It goes so much deeper than not shooting a lot and passing other guys the ball.

Thanks for the info.

rocknick - I got some questions though. Did Randolph start at center? And did Crawford look uncomfortable with his added weight or something?

Can those fees be waved if I post 35 times without agreeing with any of the haters (or lovers - whichever is applicable)?

NyNy - yeah, Zach started at center. He can play some mins at center for us this yr against offensively challenged centers. On D, Dalembert wasn't able to easily post him. Matter of fact, the only shot I remember Sam hittin' was from beyond the foul line. Zach told him that was some Bull$%@^....and he was right. On offense, he pulled Sam out from the basket and rained on him easily. We sat 2nd row under the basket and Zach's first 5 jumpers didn't even hit rim. It was impressive.

oh yeah, and Crawford looked fine w/his weight.....he just wasn't very aggressive. There was a stretch in the 3rd where he and Andre Miller were going at each other. Craw couldn't guard him so Miller would take him to the rim. Jamal would come right back at him on the other end. It was entertaining for about 2 or 3 trips. One trip back down after Miller had taken Jamal, JC came back down the court right at Andre, crossed him over and brought the ball around his back. Andre was lost and had to foul him. The whole arena let out one big DA*N!! After that, Jamal was non-existent. Didn't look into it at all.

I hate to be overly critical because everyone loves a great anklebreaker every now and then, but that is really the mentality we have to get away from.

Bip - don't get it twisted - I agree with you. Shakes and breaks don't win ball games. I guess I wanted to point out more that Jamal was non-existent outside of that small exchange. I even forgot his was on the floor most of the time which is not good

Was it possible guys were overly cautious not to get injured being aggressive in the 1st preseason game ?

Like trying to avoid severe ankle sprains etc....
