What a great move by Ferry. They also signed Devin Brown. If Varaejo and/or Pavlovic don't sign overseas or get an offer from an NBA team Cleve has to refuse they become trade bait. They appear to have added depth to their team if this turns out to be the case. If Varaejo or Pavlovic walk next yr, they have these two players to fill the void.

CLEVELAND (TICKER) -- The Cleveland Cavaliers on Saturday traded guard David Wesley to the New Orleans Hornets for forward Cedric Simmons.

Simmons, 21, was a 2006 first-round pick by the Hornets, who buried him on the bench for most of his rookie campaign. The 6-9 Simmons averaged 2.9 points and 2.5 rebounds in 43 games last season.

"Cedric is a young, talented player," Cavaliers general manager Danny Ferry said. "We look forward to participating in his continued development here in Cleveland."

Simmons may be a key contributor for the Eastern Conference champion Cavaliers, who have yet to sign swingman Sasha Pavlovic and forward Anderson Varejao. Both players are restricted free agents.

Earlier Saturday, the Cavaliers signed free agent guard Devin Brown, who spent last season with the Hornets.

The 36-year-old Wesley was a little-used reserve in his lone season with Cleveland, averaging 2.1 points, 1.0 rebound and 1.1 assists. The 14-year veteran will be in his second stint with the Hornets.

Its a good trade, cuz of the upside but simmons hasn't proved anything except for not cracking the rotation for a injury riddled team.

Isiah has tried to get younger. He's traded guys for draft picks like lee, nate, and balkman. Knicks have randolph morris and chandler too. What do you want from isiah?
