Defense wins championships but when it comes down to it you have to be able to outscore your opponent.

I will always agree that it all starts with defense. The thing is the best teams have the right formula on offense which propels to victory.

In the 80's all the teams played defense. Even the "showtime" lakers were great defensively. The knicks were always great defensively. What was their biggest problem? They always couldn't come up with the tough or easy basket. Ewing always needed help. It was help on offense not defense.

Spain's defense is a whole lot better than Russia's and at the moment is probably the best in thw world. We just lost becasue we were godawful on offense. Spain has some good offensive pieces (Gasol, Calderón and Navarro) but the rest is not very dangerous on a consistent basis. In the end because of Spain's bad offense the game came down to a very lucky basket (kind of Allan Houston's against Miami) and Gasol missing his attempt. (Gasol looked like O'Neal shooting FT's, he will have to ask himself what happened).
Anyway congrats to Russia.
