Hard to do but it appears for now that rosters are somewhat set with 3 weeks to go until camp

My take
1 Nets [they get back kristic and add magliore who is a huge improvement from Collins]
2 Cleveland[ lebron is probably the best player in the league now and while they have NOT put a better group with him its good enough in the east to take 1 step forward]
3 Chicago[Chemistry chemistry chemistry and they added big men]
4 Detroit [added some mean guards and they still have the parts tp contend to the end
5 Boston--real big 3 with hardly anything else
6 Washington--as long as they stay healthy--they truly have a big 3 with songlia back and add more athletiscm with young[pretty decent chemistry]
7 Orlando[adding Rashard lewis with Dwight Howard--they are one serious player away from being in the top 2
8 New York as long as the shots are spread around and they play D they have as much depth/talent 1-15 in the east--I dont know if it comes together well??
Sleeper teams Charlotte and Atlanta

Nets #1? I don't know about that. They weren't the best team in the East even when they had Kristic. And adding a role player in Magloire isn't going to propel them to the top of the conference. I'm assuming you accidentally left Toronto out. They won 47 last year and are young and improving!

1 Boston--Big 3 with good enough role players should be enough in the East. I'm not certain though.
2 Chicago--Great young players who are improving
3 Orlando--Rashard will help immensely. His excellent scoring compliments D Howard perfectly.
4 Cleveland--Lebron has an awful supporting cast and other teams actually improved.
5 Toronto--a 47 win team that stayed pat. Their young players should continuously improve.
6 Nets--some minor upgrades. Vince and Kidd are a year older.
7 Detroit--an aging group of veterans.
8 Washington--solid big 3 who compliment each other well but not good supporting players.

It's refreshing to have a basketball thread here! Good call Briggs

I just can't put Boston at the top without any idea how they'll all mesh. Certainly a great trio, but as a team it's hard to judge.

1. Cavs - mainly cuz they get credit for being in the finals. Lebron and the rest know that they can get there and that confidence should mean a lot during the season.

2. Bulls - they should continue to grow and even in losing, I think they learned something about themselves.

3. Raps - I think they have a tailored made regular season team. Lots of shooting and a trickly PG who is hard to slow down. Bosh is a tough cover for most teams. When you face this team only once in a while it's hard to prepare, but I don't like them in the playoffs.

4. Pistons - Still a great core and vet bench. They could slip behind Boston, but I think their experience will keep them just ahead of them.

5. Boston - In year one I don't expect them to start off as strong and this will keep them from being higher. By playoff time tho, they could be a big problem for the other teams.

6. Knicks - I know this is gonna seem high, but I get the feeling that this team will be too strong for a lot of teams this year. I expect a big jump from last year, mainly due to being stronger from day one. I don't expect another poor start to the season. Zach is gonna make things really tough. We will have one of the most potent and dominant frontcourts in the league. How many teams get 40 from they're starting C and PF and then bring in a double/double guy off the bench? That's gonna be a factor.

7. Nets - I wasn't too impressed with them in the regular season. They may actually be a team best suited for the playoffs. VC can be a bit disinterested over 82, but in the playoffs he's a real problem for teams. Kidd is gonna have to conserve energy to be strong in the playoffs.

8. Wash - they still have an awesome offense, but they stink defensively, even worse than us. They rely too much on jump shooting for me.

1. Chicago--Young intelligent team built on speed and defense. Noah is a leader and the intangibles he brings will be a difference maker in the W-L column.
2. Boston--KG + Allen + Pierce. Rondo's defense and ability to push can be x-factor.
3. NJ--most versatile and aggressive perimeter trio gets Krstic back.
4. Cleveland--Lebron is all world + solid starting unit around him but no bench.
5. Detroit--veteran unit that is consistent.
6. Orlando--Howard can be dominant. Lewis spreads the floor and puts points on the board. Nelson-Reddick backcourt the key.
7. New York--Randolph-Curry a load upfront offensively. backcourt is talented. serious leadership issues.
8. Washington--Butler Jamison and Arenas can score with anybody. Thats enough in the East.

this is a tough year. why didn't we get zbo last year? then they would have definately made the playoffs.

1.) bulls- the most balanced team in the east and maybe in the nba. they are like a machine.

2.) celtics- barring injury, this team will be one of the dominant teams. true they are not deep but having three future hof players will propel them to the top of the eastern conference.

3.) cavaliers- with a confident king james and willing cohorts that know their role, they will be back on top, though eastern conference is a slim possibility now unless they get bibby.

4.) orlando- yes, i think orlando will win the division because of the addition of lewis, and all purpose player who will be the go to guy they lacked. then howard could REALLY concentrate on defense and rebounding which is scary in itself.

5.)nets- another question about health but if they are healthy they could very well go to the eastern conference. a team that NO one wants to play in the playoffs and they reloaded their all ready improving frontcourt, they will compete for their division title.

6.) detroit- what a fall from grace but they did not make any significant moves to get better and their key players are getting older. it will be hard for this team to keep up with a more athletic conference, which is strange since they ran teams off the court two years ago. they still will rank in the top 5 in defense though.

7.) miami- not having wade back until december will be harsh and they kind of have the same problem that detroit has. still shaq is a top three center and wade WILL com back and he is one of the most dangerous players out there. but do they still have the desire to win again? they will compete with a slew of other teams for the 8th spot.

8.) knicks- i can't leave them off the list. yes i am bias. they are one of the best rebounding and offensive teams in the league and you add zbo to the mix it will be interesting. thomas has to keep it together which i think he will. it will be close for this spot as well as the 7th but i think the knicks will edge out the other teams.

bubble teams: toronto- though they improved by adding outside shoting with kapono, i think they may fall from grace. i think bosh will get better this year and their matchup problems are amazing but people will look at the nets blueprint and use it against them. they could end up like the clippers.

washington- the big three are VERY GOOD. however, after them they are not deep at all. it seems like in this conference you need to have a deep team and this team is NOT deep. they will be in the race and they are an enigma since they can be a 3 seed team or drop out of the playoffs.

atlanta- talented team who needs focus. they can be in the race as they have youth and balance. but they have to get over their losing culture which is hard to get over. just ask the knicks.

charlotte- this team has gotten better. j-rich is an all- around talent who can be a top 10 sg in the league. pair him with gerald wallace and you have a lethel combiniation. inexperience is their biggest obstacle.

Remember that\'s Jefferson Kidd Carter and this year they have good big men and an extra year for their bench+ possibly adding Houston.

I'm not sold on rashard Lewis. I think he's *****. They have Howard which is good and Nelson is gonna be solid. They have a list of swingmen mascarading as position players. I just think they turned grant hill to rashard and that's it. Fuck them. Maybe 6-9.

I hate clevland. Lebron had lasik surgery so I guess they upgraded enough to win the championship for years. Fuck them.

Detroit didn't get better and they are older. They will still be a playoff team buy they are slippin. Fuck Detroit.

Boston has a big three. Awesome 3 I should say. That's as far as it goes. There success banks on how healthy they can be. Fuck Boston.

The nets were already good. Their stars are a year older buy they have adequate youth behind them to fill in and take over. Magliore and krstic add some serious help to a team that had no inside play. Mags is a dirty player. Krstic can block shots and shoot that ball. They both play within the flow so they are some serious upgrades to a team that's already a playoff lock. Still they are the nets so **** them.

Toronto is gonna be better. They put a hard working skill play out there at all times. They are soft inside but they will finesse you to death. Nice team. All the platers seem honorable. Much respect but the knicks is who I roll with so **** them.

I hate Washington. Big 3 with arenas chucking. No support. No muscle. Just a terrible basketball team. I hate watching them play. If arenas is not dropping 30 plus in the playoffs they lose. Fuck them.

The knicks have all of their guys coming back healthy and they added a 20/10 beast to replace a 10/5 *****. Knicks will be right there. Isiah still has a trade in him. He could improve the team even more. Go knicks! Go knicks! Go knicks!

Orlando lost Milicic and Hill. After Howard and Rashard, their next best scorers are Pat Garrity and Hedo Turkoglu. They're a jumpshooting team and Dhoward is not a post-up player so as long as you don't leave their shooters open and you outmuscle their other big men (Battie, Foyle) you can beat them.

Reddick? if his back is OK he and Lewis don't need to come no closer than 18 feet to put 20 on the board night in and night out. thats a lot of space for Howard even without a refined post game.

Reddick needs to show me something first. He hasn't been healthy and even when he was I question if he's able to create his own shot. With no double team inside, they will be taking contested shots. Lewis is tall enough. Reddick would be smothered by a normal size SG.

Jameer Nelson scored 13 a game (and 14.6 the prior year). He's a very solidd all around player. Ariza's scoring is improving too. That said, I may have ranked them slightly too high. They're probably not deep enough to be #3.

Miami got one mention so far. Thats a little bit strange. They at least deserve a mention along with teams like Charlotte and Atlanta. But only one person has them in the playoffs?

I have no idea why people are trying to sleep on Miami they made the playoffs last yr as a 4-5th seed with Wade and Shaq missing a ton of games and I don't think either of them will miss that many games this yr. Contrary to reports on Wade, reports on injuries are made to be worst case scenario to build stars up when they return. Wade will be playing games in November count on it.

I find it comical fans have them falling off as much as they do. If they are factoring in possible injuries to that team, then why aren't we factoring in possible injuries to our team? With that being said who made the playoffs last yr as a solid seed even with the injuries and who didn't? Miami got younger and more athletic with draft picks, giving younger players opportunity to get clock and with off-season acquisitions. Here's another thing they are amongst the top defensive teams in the league.

I don't know how I forgot about Miami. I don't feel that strongly about their chances, but i give them a better shot than Wash. I want to make a change to my list and kick Wash out and put Miami at 8. I think Shaq's age will be a factor. I know it sounds low, but things have changed in the East. There's a lot of competitive teams now and I don't think Wade and an aging Shaq are enough.
