Par For The Course
"unreal...this is almost comical how people with THAT much money behave and operate."
dj - "mo' money, mo' problems"
From the Creative Artists X-Files
In the late '80s, five up-and-coming agents, who were all handsome, twenty-something males known for their brazen ambition and cutthroat tactics, became known as "The Young Turks." This powerful, young contingent took the helm when (Michael) Ovitz and the other founders left in '95.
Turk golden boy, Jay Moloney, perhaps the most charming and handsome of the group, was Ovitz's special protégé. He'd started out as an intern at CAA (although he mostly did nanny duties at Ovitz's home) and Ovitz took him under his wing. As Moloney moved up the ranks, Ovitz guided key clients in his direction, and the wunderkind was soon making over a $1 million bucks a year representing the likes of Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, Tim Burton and Uma Thurman. But when he wasn't charming the A-list, apparently Moloney was employing increasingly cutthroat, no-holds-barred tactics to stay on top. (Perhaps the worst incident, as reported in New York magazine, occurred when a rumor was spread that an agent at a rival agency had AIDS, and it was eventually discovered that it was most likely started by Moloney.)
In the wake of his father's death and Ovitz's departure, Moloney fell victim to his excessive lifestyle and died of suicide a few days after his 35th birthday.
