Philly is a sleeper team this year.

Yup, with the fishes.

Bottom 10 team.

DLee is the best thing to happen to NY in Isiah's 4 year tenure. And that alone, though a positive on the radar, is sad as hell.

Does this mean Camby is at least A LITTLE more expendable for them, now that they have Hunter?

Some of us Knick fans said the same thing last yr after the A.I. trade and then they proceed to finish better than us at seasons end.

I agree with Isles they are going to be an intriguing team this season

Hasn't Denver been shopping Camby for a while now?

I doubt Isiah's interested now. Remember he said shot-blocking was "overrated"? And from the team he's put together, he appears to feel that way about all of defense.

Actually, the four players he's drafted in the last two years were considered very good defensively coming out of college. Balkman, Collins, Chandler, and Nichols were all sound defensively coming out of college. Balkman and Collins played good defense for us last season.

Louis Williams looks like he is going to be a mega steal in that draft. However for the team itself--isnt that frontline way to raw offensively? almost sounds like LB could coach that team let the big guys rebound block shots and guards score. They have a lot of good 1-2-3 guys but a severe amount of raw 4-5 guys.

philly is like a nice blue-collar lunch box team. should be interesting to see how many games they can win without the big time talent.

He drafts and then benches good defensive players and gives all the playing time to defensively flawed, overpaid players.

Balkman and Collins were rookies last season. They didn't play much early on, but started to get more pt later and played a lot (and played well) when the players ahead of them were injured. By the way, who were the defensively flawed players at small forward ahead of Balkman?

Reggie Evans is a nice role player, but makes the 6ers a sleeper in the eyes of some Knick fans only because we didn't pick him up. If we had, they'd be bitching about the $20 million he is owed until 2011.

I suppose you could kvetch about Marbury playing ahead of Collins, but then you would also have to note how Isiah deserves credit for focusing Marbury's efforts on the defensive end. He wasn't a liability for us there last year, even while guarding 2's.

Btw, all three of Nate, Lee and Frye were considered solid defensively coming out of college as well.

Benching rookies just because they're rookies is an awful policy implemented only by poorly run teams trying to justify huge veteran contracts. Who were the flawed SFs? Jared Jeffries is flawed at everything (and inferior to Balkman at everything) and he played ahead of Balkman. Crawford got some minutes at SF too. Why are you singling out the SF spot for this question anyway? Is it because you noticed that it was the only one of the five positions that my comment might not apply to?

Agreed. So far on this board, I've seen the Bobcats, the Hawks, the Bucks, the Magic and now the Sixers as sleeper teams in the east. So basically, everyone in the east improved except for the Knicks.

and the other shoe drops...
Philadelphia Agrees To Terms With Booth
September 10, 2007 - 8:19 pm
Philadelphia Daily News -

The Sixers have agreed to terms with free-agent center Calvin Booth and will sign him tomorrow, team president Billy King said today.

Contract terms were not disclosed.

The 6-11 Booth played in 44 games with Washington last season, averaging 1.6 points and 1.8 rebounds in 44 regular-season games.

the only question is whether 55 wins will be enough for philly to pass boston...

Well he is better than Curry in all phases of the game other than low post scoring during single coverage.

big beast - it is virtually impossible for the knicks to be the fashionable "sleeper" pick because of the omnipresent coverage in New York City.

how you gunna sneak up on anyone when every single move is under a microscope?

then again, most people did sleep on Renaldo Balkman and David Lee out of college.

(whispering) Psst... pass the word, the Knicks suck.
