Knicks, Bulls to bid on Kobe

With coach Phil Jackson entering the final year of his contract, transition appears to be in the Lakers' future. The betting is the Knicks will make a major run at Kobe Bryant with the Bulls, Bryant's personal choice, still a possibility.

Chicago Tribune
----------------------------

why break up the team's youth core and potential for Kobe??? This team is developing a nice identity... it has no "D", but Balkman, Lee and Collins will redefine defensive effort for the knicks in the coming years.

You need at least one superstar for a championship. We have none.

Not really...
you need stars, depth... team players who play with passion and buy into a system...
who was the superstar on Larry Brown's detroit squad?

Are we going to go thru this again?
First of all, that was ONE example in the last 20 years.
Second of all, where do you see passion and team players that buy into a system on this team?

I don't think you have to have a superstar to win, but dude it's Kobe. You are talking about arguably the best basketball player in the world, who is still in his prime. If you can get that guy, you have to make that trade.
Trust the Process

Honestly........we don't even need to win a championship.

Boring ass teams win championships. Slow ass Shaq and Duncan.

I'd love to see a young fresh resilient bunch make the Finals and put up a heart-felt fight.

'99 Knicks. THAT'S all I ask for. Chip would be great, but I'd rather get off my seat and get pumped up watching a team with heart and defense.

All I ask.

DLee is the best thing to happen to NY in Isiah's 4 year tenure. And that alone, though a positive on the radar, is sad as hell.

Bringing up Detriot is so lame, everyone always brings that team up.

Ben Wallace 10pts 11.3rbs 2.4blks 1.7 (defensive player of the year)
Rasheed Wallace 13pts 7.8rbs 2.0blks (one of the best defensive pf in NBA)
Billups 16.4pts 5.9ass 3.4rbs
Rip 20.0pts 4.3rbs 4.3ass
T Prince 13.4pts 6.3rbs 2.2ass

You have three of the best defenders in the league at their position and guys that are allstars at nearly every position, two of which are on the olympic team.....

Kobe is better than Lebron, Marbury is better than anyone else on the cavs, go down the list and compare player by player you have a chance to win the east with kobe even if you give up Lee, Curry, and Crawford.

Right now are team constructed maybe gets a 7-8 seed or missed the playoffs

MS, Cleveland isn't coming out of the east this year, no matter what we do. Boston is now the team to beat.

do you give up every chip with a future...
Lee, Balk, Collins, Randolph, Q and 2 unprotected first round picks... because thats what it could take?!?

the knicks are just now on the verge up putting together a nice nucleus for long after Kobe loses his hops...
is it really worth it?

Lee, Balkman, Collins, Q are all team players who play with passion and will sacrifice to better the team.

in our case, you have to look at it this way, if we can spend money like nobody else, trade away expirings and picks for better players, then you go get kobe no matter what it takes and then try to add pieces around him using those expirings/picks.

it's much tougher to find a kobe than it is to find the other players we have.

where is this nice nucleus? seriously

Collins, Lee, Balkman is the only thing i am excited about.

Zach is a disaster so much so the blazers dumped him for virtually nothing, even though he would fit in perfectly next to odom. Curry has no passion and plays like it, i don't care how much he scores if he is not the focal point he doesn't really try. What i see is a lot of role players. so you take a chance with kobe.

Even if it's Zach, Chandler, Lee, Crawford, Nicholas you need to take a chance

Marbury/Collins
Kobe/Nate
Q/Balkman
Jefferies/Rose
Curry/Morris

You still have a few young pieces and a chance to win the east

expect Kobe to cost Lee, Balkman, Collins, Morris and Q + 2 first rounders.

Is he worth that much?

Kobe is worth all of us giving him a tugjob at once.

What are you kidding me.

This is Kobe goddamm Bryant we're talking about.

So that would give you a lineup of

Marbury
Kobe
Jefferies
Zach
Curry

Yes an NBA championship is worth that much

I guess i'm the only person on the board that hates Kobe and would hate to have him on the team...

other players i would never like to see on the knicks:

Mourning
PJ Brown
Kidd
Richard Jefferson
Kenyon Martin
Shaq

Kobe is 29 years old... you can expect him to stay at this level for another 3 years... or less if he experiences injury...
is it worth giving up Lee, Balkman, Collins, Morris and Q + 2 first rounders for a selfish superstar eho has3 years left of optimum play?

If the Lakers are willing to take any combination of player we have it's worth it. We would still have enough left after a trade to be a contending team. I just don't know if LA feels compelled to do anything anymore. It's gonna be up to Kobe to force their hand by holding out and complaining or at least threatening to do so in private. If his agent gets that across to them, they'll likely do the right thing and move him.

The problem for LA is selling the deal to the fans. We don't really have anything sexy to give them. The Bulls may have less of a desire to make a deal for Kobe, but they have the sexy names to trade. We would have to sweeten the pot with greater volume in the deal. If i'm LA tho, I wait, cuz then there's more of a chance that more teams could enter the bidding war. Right now we're the most serious bidder and it's not even clear that Chicago even wants to be involved. That's not good for LA.
