AWESOME! finally a top ass't coach we get to hold onto for a change... after losing guys like Belicheck & Fox following SB qualifying seasons i thought Spags was on his way to WAS for sure.

Spagnuolo (pronounced: SPA - NEW - LO) is the highest paid DC in the league ($2M/year) and he's signed for 3 more seasons. Can you say next in line?

Unfortunately- I think holding onto him past next year will be tough. Unless of course we win the Superbowl again and he misses out on all the interviews!

LOL. Actually even after we win next year, I bet more teams will wait this time for their interviews. The Falcons really wanted him- their new GM was good friends with him, but their owner was worried about waiting too long and the possibility he would jilt them. I'm sure they are kicking themselves now, as they ended up hiring the Jags D-Coordinator, who doesn't always get a lot of credit (b/c the impression is Del Rio runs that D).

Maybe he will leave next year regardless. I get the vibe that if he's willing to turn down a big job with big money now, that maybe he sees the light at the end of the tunnel. I'm just being hopeful because I really hate the idea of Coughlin retiring one year after we lose Spags to another team.

And since we are talking about the future, is it too soon to discuss next year's schedule?

HOME: San Francisco (5-11), Seattle (10-6), Baltimore (5-11), Cincinnati (7-9), Carolina (7-9)
AWAY: Arizona (8-8), St. Louis (3-13), Cleveland (10-6), Pittsburgh (10-6), Minnesota (8-8)

Plus 3 home games and 3 away games against the NFC East.

factor in 2 games each vs. DAL, PHI & WAS & the Giants have a tough road ahead next season... i think CLE's going to be real good next year, & PIT, SEA & MIN are always tough... CAR & CIN aren't walk overs either... let's hope everyone comes back healthy again next season so they can make another run at this all over again... we haven't had a dynasty in NY for a while.

Right -- I factored the 6 NFC East games in the last sentence of my post. I figured those were pretty much obvious. We play them every year.

The rest of the schedule seems easy to me. Maybe I'm underestimating the strength of certain teams, but I think the Rams, Bengals, Ravens, 49ers and Cardinal games are gimmes. That's five right there. If we split our division games -- that's three. We just need two wins out of the Seahawks, Panthers, Browns, Vikes and Steelers. And I think we'll beat more than two of those teams. So I'm predicting 10 wins at a minimum. A lot can change between now and the start of the season, but I like the way things look right now. I'm still feeling that SuperBowl afterglow.

Take a look at the tribute I put together for the Giants:

"If I see these refs in front of me I will F* kill them. F** them! If I see their daughters in front of me, I am going to F** them, F** them in the mouth, from the front and the back. I will F** their mothers too." - Darko Milicic

now that Spags is back in the fold, it's time to start looking at pending FA's... i'm hearing the Gints are in talks to extend Derrick Ward's contract... there's also the issue of trying to hold onto Kawika Mitchell & Gibril Wilson, both who are key members of our newly revamped D.

i think it's imperative to keep this team together... they gelled so well towards the end of this season & finished w/a flurry... i feel they can carry this momentum straight into next season if they can hold onto those 3 guys & keep this core together for another run in '09.

V, what's the deal w/the cap situation? u think Reese will be able to get this done or have u heard the Giants have other plans in the making?

GIANTS have a better cap situation this year than they did last year. They are projected to be at least $20M under with only the guys you named as key UFA's they need to keep. I don't know why but I doubt the GIANTS are gonna make too many splashes. I think they'll keep the guys they got, add a few hungry lower tier, lesser known guys (who will pan out to be awesome) and draft brilliantly again. The future is bright and I really trust Reese's decision making after his first year turned out so great.

awesome to hear... thanks eViL... w/that much in cap room they can afford to possibly upgrade in the secondary w/a signing also, no? not that i think Ross & Webster are bad, but they could use some more depth, cuz Madison's getting old & he can't cover guys on deep routes the way he used to, & Kevin Dockery's not all that.

There are some big names out there on the defensive side of the ball -- Briggs, Samuel, Dansby, Trufant, Hamlin... I don't know any of these guys well enough to really judge their fit with the GIANTS. But I've heard their names thrown around as big UFA's. Whatever Reese decides to do is cool with me. I won't second guess the man.

Maybe the GIANTS will draft another defensive back. Who knows? The thing that makes me the most happy about the team is that there are no glaring holes anywhere. I agree that the secondary is probably the most shaky. But it's not terrible. We are in good position to solidify every facet of the game and build a dynasty.

If you got 20 minutes -- watch this (it's awesome!!!): http://www.nfl.com/videos?videoId=09000d5d80690393

i read the Cards might smack the franchise tag on Dansby... Briggs is gonna command way too large a paycheck & anyway our front 7 is solid w/Kiwanuka coming back next season & if they hold onto Mitchell... Zach Deossie stepped up in special teams this season too, so he along w/Gerris Wilkinson will be useful pieces to have as depth at the position going forward.

Marcus Trufant would be an awesome pickup for us at CB to augment our secondary... maybe move Madison to free safety & get rid of Butler since Madison's a solid tackler & Butler sucks in coverage? then use either Webster or Ross as well as Dockery in Nickel & Dime package coverage depending on who wins out in training camp?

or we can just sign Ken Hamlin to play alongside Gibril Wilson... that would give us 2 hard hitting physical safeties in the secondary that should make guys think twice before going through the middle on their pass routes.

i like those possibilities bro.
