Houston Says Comeback Is A Go
August 23, 2007 - 8:19 pm
USA Today -

Allan Houston says he believed in his heart that his career wasn't over when he retired two years ago because of knee problems.

Now he says his heart and body are on the same page and the former New York Knicks captain is ready for a comeback.

"I'm going to give it a shot," said Houston, whose foundation on Sunday will sponsor a Father Knows Best Retreat, a faith-based event in Harlem designed to strengthen father-son and mentor-mentee relationships. "I'm working out every day. I just have to figure out where it's going to be. In my heart I always felt it wasn't over. As I started working out, I felt my body was catching up with my heart."

Houston said playing for the Knicks isn't out of the question and that two teams have contacted him. The 6-6 guard said that while several teams, including Cleveland, Chicago, Detroit and Miami are going to be good, going to a good team doesn't guarantee a title.

LAWL

Like I said on realgm, he's in denial. Shooting the ball in a gym is a BIG difference than playing in a game where's there is a lot of body contact and movement in the legs. He won't last 20 games.
some Knick fans accept mediocrity as excellence .... I don't!

^Most likely yes, but always worth giving it a try!

I wish him well. I think he's going to be good. I hope it's not for the Celtics.

I'd like to see him on the Nets. Good team and it keeps him sort of home.

He has been a good NYer who really gives back and keeping him in the area is just good for him, family and the community.

I know some hate the Nets but in this case I think H20 is bigger than the rivalry.

I think if he can prove himself he would be a great addition to NY, but I think he will end up somewhere else. Most likely he won't make it but gotta love the effort to try and come back.

Grant Hill has stuck around so why cant Allan give it another try? Best of luck to him.

I would rather move chandler for artest and i believe a jefferies, chandler, nate for ron ron would get it done.

Love to have houston, but don't like the fact that crawford would get all of collins minutes.

I wish him luck. I really don't care where he goes. If he comes here great. IF he doesn't we still would have things that we need to fix internally before we start worrying about what other teams are doing.

Exactly. I don't get it why people are worried about him going to specific teams.

It's the same as Boston fans hating to see Johnny Damon in a Yankee uniform... or Boston fans hating to see David Wells in a Boston uniform... not sure why you don't get fan sentimentality... it's a commn trait in most fans.

I'm sentimental too. I want him here. But if he's not here, I've learned to move on. What if Oak comes back are we going to lament where he goes to play? At some point you just have to let it go.

I'm not going to lose any sleep over it, but seeing him on a team that I despise won't be fun anytime we play them, no matter how well or poorly he's playing... Oakley has already played for the Raptors & we faced them in the playoffs, so i'm more conditioned to accept seeing him on a rival team at this point... Houston was 1 of my favorite Knicks in his time here & I'd rather not taint that mental image of him... Spree got on my nerves when he came back as a T'Wolf because of his moronic antics, but it didn't really bother me to see him playing for MIN because i don't harbor any ill will towards that team... if he'd signed with the Nets or Bulls, it would have been a lot more bothersome.

Oh, okay. I thought people had those reactions because they were worried it would make the team he went to harder for us to defeat. Houston was not exactly a fan favorite, though. I'm surprised fans now have such strong sentimental feelings.

See I'm with bonn, I can actually understand your point of view. You liked the guy so seeing him in another uni is something you would not like to see. THAT I UNDERSTAND. What I don't understand are the people that hated the guy but then don't want to see him in another uniform. I don't get it. If he plays elswhere they will hate him. If he plays here they will hate him. Why is everyone always hatin' on Allan

Cause he's a douchebag, and you are obsessed with people hatin'. I hate that.
