Why is international basketball better than the NBA?
Because we taught them the game and how to play fundementally. We taught them everything. We taught them too well.
Now on the American side, the NBA has always prompted charecters. Single entities like Jordan, kobe, tmac, etc. Throughout the years, these guys have failed and the better overall team has won. Ok maybe there will be a MVP candidate on the team or a couple all-stars. You still need a great group of players around that play well together and can carry their team on some occations when needed. You also need the right mix of stars. T-Mac and yao? Can't just be anybody. As talented as some of these guys are, some still can't play the game. 28,6,6 and still can't play the game.
As far as teaching the game, we forgot the most important principle and that's heart, loyalty, and respect for the game. Everyone else in the world understands this. They already displayed it in soccer and other sporting events. Those people know and love the game almost as much as soccer now. We have created a monster.
Anyone that still is harping on getting franchise players need to open their eyes. USA basketball senior team is filled with NBA MVP candidates. Why can't they beat anybody? Somewhere along the line we forgot to teach our own people the game. We poisoned a generation with the dollar. Everyone wants to be Jordan. Nobody knows how to play the game. Even NBA role players today. They all were jordans untill they got to the NBA. Meaning, they just got the ball and went one on one. The rest of the players watched them. When players get to the NBA, its too much retooling and teaching going on. Like Nate. Nobody made that bastard learn how to play the point? Not picking on him cuz there are tons of players in the league that are in la la land but have all the talent in the world just no knowledge. We are failing our athletes. The NBA players don't box out, or take charges. There is no fight.
Watch the spurs. They are NOT a very talented team, but they are a well oiled machine. They have tons of no name talent. They have Duncan who is probably one of the best players ever but he can't win without the robots around him. Those guys team rebound. They box out. They cut. That cut off lanes to the basket. They cheat. They all can shoot it. Tony Parker is perfect for them cuz the team has so much confusion happening that Parker gets to do what he wants. When they need a guy to be that kobe, they have manu and pop likes to take manu off the bench. Domination. The spurs never step on the court with more talent that the other team, but they always wind up destroying people.
The NBA is in trouble. They need to start teaching the game. They need to have NBA talent evaluators watch highschool games and offer NBA programs to come into schools and teach the coaches and up coming players how to really play the game. They do it internationally righ? Why don't they do it here?
Its sad. My step son was in a bitty league when he was 10-11. The "coaches" had the kids just passing the ball to the kid that already could play. The ones that could, wanted to learn but they just chucked them to the side without really teaching the game to them. Its sad.
Something needs to happen. Basketball without borders needs to come back home and save the American basketball player.
This is one of the best posts I ever read.
No sarcasm or anything. I will never be able to do this in English.
I started learning English in 33. Too late.
I hope it is not too late for NBA.
But American basketball needs some revolution.
The huge long contracts are eating out the resources of the clubs and leaving nothing for players other that stars. So why to work hard if you are not a star and never be one. And why work hard if you already get the money...
Basketball bubbles...
