Per ESPN radio. All of us knew this was coming one of these days, but none of us wanted to believe it. It is a very sad day for the Yankees franchise, & for me because I grew up listening to this guy, as did many of you. One of the greatest broadcasters of alltime & a great Yankee. He will be sorely missed.

Holy Cow. Rest In Peace, Scooter.

Damn
lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

How sad. I will miss Phil, a truely great Yankee.

RIP Scooter

He was a big part of my childhood. Scooter, Bill White and Frank Messer were the trio that I grew up watching and listening to Yankee games.

We lost a genuinely good man and class act. He will be missed.

God Speed and condolences to the Rizzuto and Yankee family.

from the boss:
"I guess heaven must have needed a shortstop. Phil Rizzuto's contributions to the Yankees and the sport of baseball were immense for a period of over 50 years. He was one of the greatest Yankees of all time and a dear, close friend of mine whose loss is enormous to me and to the entire Yankee family. He epitomized the Yankee spirit — gritty and hard charging — and he wore the pinstripes proudly.

While Scooter may have been smaller in size than some, he was among the tallest in his stature as a Yankee. He was a favorite of fans both as a player and later as a broadcaster. His voice and "Holy Cow" will be part of baseball for as long as we play the game. No one deserved his place in the Hall of Fame more than Number 10.

Our condolences to his wife, Cora, and the rest of his family."

He was definately an icon. Watching Donnie baseball jack a homer and hearing Phil on the mic was just magical stuff.

Holy cow. Rip.

Nothing was funnier than listening to him get angry while telling stories and calling them huckleberries. He was a funny guy, and he sometimes wasn't even trying to be funny. He just had that light, which spread to everyone around him.

My favorite Scooter moment was when he introduced himself as Bill White at the start of a Yankee broadcast & introduced White as Phil Rizzuto because he was reading straight from the teleprompter... Bill White lost it... classic.

I had a feeling this day was coming soon when he didn't make it out for Old Timer's day this year... the people in the stands next to me let out a sigh like they realized the reality of the situation... I remember watching him, Bill White & Frank Messer broadcast the games on my black & white TV... they taught me the game & made me the huge Yankee fan I am today... Scooter was like that crazy old uncle every one of us seems to have... boy, I'm gonna miss that guy.

Much Love to ya Phil.

Memories, I'm 38 now and remember that "holy cow" when I was just a teenager... I think through him it became a part of my vocabulary.
People here in Germany always laugh at me when I say it as it sounds funny to them, but it will forever have a piece of Phil in it when I say it.

Classic. I would love how he gets his stuff ready at the bottom of the 6th. My favorite stuff is when he would describe what he was going to have for dinner.

You go in peace Phil.

Someone needs to make a nice Phil Rizzuto tribute video on YouTube.
I'll never trust this' team again.

Phil was 55 years old when he experienced the last knick championship. 34 years ago.

I never saw him play, but he had 7 world series rings in his career and was the personality of a generation of fans on TV.

and if you needed fast cash......
