Reggie Miller, Allan Houston, The MailMan, to name a few. They all wanted that ring. And now some will join a team with a chance to win it all just to put a ring on thier finger.

It's only the Spurs that have been winning it. There's never a guarantee to win it, even if you have Garnett, Ray and Paul Pierce. Therefore, what's the point in criticizing them. The point is having a shot to compete for a title.

I don't mean trades and things like that. I mean someone like a Carl Malone, or someone who will come out of a fake retirement a join a potentially championship team. Take like Allan Houstom who walked away with 40 million dollar because he said he couldn't play and now that his contract is up all of a sudden he can play again and wants to play for a championship calaber team.

I agree, there should be a law. And the mandatory minimum sentence should be ten years in prison.

Um no offence but thats one of the worst things I have ever heard. Other than making lots of money isn't the point of playing in the NBA to win championships?

Or is it about winning in the game of life?

When a player signs on in the twilight of their careers, that ring is already going to be tainted in a number of fans eyes. What more can you do, ban older players from the league if they sign with a contending team? That's a little ridiculous.

This post caught me off guard. Without the traditional Papabear intro/close, I had to double take at the user name.

I can remember back in the day players stayed together no matter what. It was about the hard work and unity to go through things together and win.
Then along comes Mr want a ring he turns down more money just to get on that team to win a ring.
If thats the case then why don't we do away with the luxury tax all together and let each team spend what they want. They won't do that because you know why?? Because the Knicks got all the money and can match any team for the best player. Is that unfair??? The luxury tax is to hold back teams like the Knicks from buying a championship and teams like San Antonio wouldn't have a chance. Tim Duncan wouldn't be a Spur. He would be a Knick making much more money.

I think if players do that, they do not deserve to be one of the "greatest players of all time" which is usually, excluding Ewing and others, what makes someone a hall of famer. If Allan went to the Spurs and they won, I wouldn't call him one of the greatest players of all time. He is a good play, one dimensional and play some defense.

true, what makes you the greatest of all time is your ability to lift your teamates to a title.

Now wait a min. There were some great basketball players who never got a ring because the owners never gave what was needed around him to win the big one. If Jordan didn't have Scottie Pipen and they still had the same other players, I don't think that Jordan would have gotten a ring and the Knicks would have won at least 2 rings.

Why do people care so much. Is it a fear that a player who wasn't "great" somehow gets a ring that someone else led the team to and this therefore changes his perception to "great", which is somehow unfair to all the other "great" players that never came back and played for a team where someone else led them to "greatness".

Why does anyone care. I don't get it. If Allan Houston comes back and wins a title with Boston by playing 15 minutes a game, he will still be considered a one dimensional player that is a great shooter, that played a role in winning a title. Who cares?

I think people just love being able to say Allan and Charles and Karl and others weren't that great. And this fear that they may win a title in their old age may threaten their ability to say that they weren't that great. And that scares them.

I am surprise that H20 can be mentioned in the same likes of a Malone or Barkley. Correct me if I am wrong here but he only has one star game appearance in his career. I would simply put Houston in the mode of a Finley. The Ewings, Barkleys, Malones, Stocktons and Millers were great in their own right. So I think their championship rings would be tainted if they would have won on different teams. Especially Malone and Barkley, those guys were joining teams that won the championship the previous years.
