I didn't damn him. I wasn't singling him out. I was referring to all baseball players and used him as an example because people think they know more than they do about him and Jeter. I like A-Rod a lot. I was just sticking to the Yankees b/c it's a Yankees thread. But I'll throw in other players who are given the benefit of the doubt too like Ichiro, Magglio, and Carl Crawford, just to name a few off the top of my head.

You think Ichiro, a guy who relies on making contact and speed, needs steriods? Why.

He didn't say that. He said no athlete, including them, should get the benefit of the doubt.

With that said, there's even less of a shot in hell than ARod and Jeter, that Ichiro takes Steroids.

roids aren't only taken to bulk up... they also help to recover from injuries faster as well... so you can't just look at the body type of any player & automatically disclude them from any suspicion of having taken steroids, so in that respect Bonn is absolutely right... me personally, at this point w/so many players having been caught or been suspected of taking them at 1 point or another, i really don't care if they do it or not... it's their bodies they're messing with by using that stuff to begin with... it's them that will have to pay the price later on in life if they continue to abuse it... any Yankee fan that cheers for Giambi when he hits a HR & yet says they're opposed to steroid use in baseball is a big hypocrite as far as i'm concerned... same goes for any Met fan that cheers for admitted users like Guillermo Mota, or any number of other baseball fans who cheer for guys who can be suspicious of having used in the past like Barry Bonds, Sammy Sosa, Nomar Garciaparra, Luis Gonzalez, Pudge Rodriguez, Miguel Tejada, Brett Boone, Esteban Loiaza, etc.

I remember when brett boone came to Atlanta after that huge HR season with seattle, his numbers dropped dramatically, he was a total joke, but the biggest joke was brady Anderson, he blew up like a NFL LB, hit 50HR's that year, got off the juice and couldn't hit the ball to the warning track....

The 1997 Florida Marlins
The 2002 Anaheim Angels
The 2004 Boston Red Sox

All of whom won the World Series after making the playoffs as the Wild Card.

You can throw in the 2000 Mets, 2002 SF Giants, 2005 Houston Astros and 2006 Detroit Tigers who all won their Leagues Pennants as the Wild Card winner.

Just get to the playoffs.

Isles (and others), what do you think the Yankees' record would be right now without A-Rod?

I'm not sure they'd even be above .500. His season is truly amazing!

I wouldn't go that far. I'd say they'd be around 10 games over .500 without him. He's the difference between having a comfortable lead and fighting to the end to get into the playoffs.

They would still have an above average offense without him. That's how good their offense is. It's scary. But he makes it easily the best offense in baseball.

On offense, they look like a bunch of inconsistent, overpaid players without A-Rod. And the pitching is really only middle of the pack (4.52 ERA). They're 19 games over .500. You're saying A-Rod made a difference in only 4 or 5 games. I think it's closer to ten games.

They've scored 844 runs this year. Say A-Rod is worth 100 runs more than whoever would have played 3rd, that's generous but takes into account his effect on the lineup. With 744 runs scored, that would place them 3rd in the AL. That's more than enough offense to still be within striking distance of the wild card.

I don't think you take away A-Rod and suddenly the Yankees are no better than Toronto as a .500 team.

Yankee Pride requires coming in first. The Wild Card is a failure.

They'd 3rd in hitting and 8th in pitching. Maybe they'd be closer to 7 games over .500.

Cleveland beat Anaheim again tonight. I'd love to see the Indians finish with a better record than the Angels. Let the Red Sox fly cross country to play the Angels in the first rd. I'd rather take my chances with Cleveland.

The Indians are just a game behind the Angels now.
