STEPH SAYS DON'T FEAR KG, CELTS

August 2, 2007 -- Stephon Marbury said late last season he would love to reunite with Kevin Garnett. But Marbury feels no remorse Garnett is headed to Beantown and believes the Knicks should not be afraid of the new-look Celtics.

In an exclusive interview with The Post, Marbury also took shots at Minnesota GM Kevin McHale, expressing concern his cousin Sebastian Telfair, involved in the blockbuster, has to play for him.

"When I do speak to (Sebastian) I'll wish him good luck and tell him to be careful around Kevin McHale," Marbury said.

McHale's trade has made Boston the East's team to beat in some circles. Marbury isn't granting the Celtics the Eastern title.

"On paper, they're a really good team with guys who can really play, but they still have to get on the court and do it," Marbury said. "Chemistry is everything. We look good on paper, too, and we have a year under our belts.

"I'm not thinking about Boston," Marbury added. "I'm only thinking about the New York Knicks. Our new nickname is nice and nasty. That's how we're coming."

Isiah Thomas would've loved to snare Garnett, though Zach Randolph is a solid consolation prize.

"McHale wasn't trading him to Isiah; I knew that wasn't going to happen," Marbury said.

Marbury's dislike for McHale stems from his Minnesota days. Marbury felt betrayed after he was dealt by Minnesota, and McHale leaked Marbury was jealous of Garnett.

"As far as my little cousin, I wish him all the best because he's got to deal with Kevin McHale," Marbury said. "I wouldn't want to play for Kevin McHale. When I left, all of a sudden I became a bad person from his standpoint. I became selfish and jealous of Kevin."
Marbury feels good for the other Kevin.

"I'm very happy for him," Marbury said. "He finally put them in a corner from what I hear. He said he wanted out. He was tired of losing. Nobody likes losing."

Marbury, working out this week at the Knicks facility, will resume his Starbury discount sneaker tour Aug. 18. Marbury will make appearances at Steve & Barrys in Albany, Rochester and Buffalo before appearing Aug. 21 in Manhattan with two 18-wheelers for a giveaway of sneakers, haircuts and food.

There's a huge difference between the irrelevance of what fans say on a message board and what a "star" says to the media. Time and time again it comes down to, "Marbury should know better", and time and time again, it's a huge disappointment that he doesn't.

As for McHale, yes, he tried to cheat with an under the table deal with Joe Smith. He's one of about 10 GMs, maybe more, that did such. McHale got publically caught and they made an example of him. But let's not pretend like he's the only one who did it.

TKF you are a very good poster and I think you know in your head or your heart that his constant mouthing off does help the Knicks.

There are several problems actually.

1. This isnt an isolated incident. Marbury has made more enemies than any player in the league. How does this help the Knicks? I can think of over a dozen players, teammates, coachs, gms that this guy has had problems with.
2. He is rewriting history. He was the one that demanded a trade in Minny saying it was too cold and he couldnt drink there. The real reason was he was jealous he could never be the man there.
3. KG didnt force this trade as he is trying to push. The Twolves tried to make this trade 2 months ago and it was KG that said he didnt wnat to be traded.
4. I'm no where close to being a hater but this every week Marbury in the media stuff is not helping the Knicks in any way shape or form. Do you see any other Knicks player or coach acting like Marbury? He is dragging the whole team down with him in this Marbury era. Thats why his teammates for years have dislikes him. Thats why when he had a bday party a few years ago no Knick showed up.

Thanks, and I understand your point. We all know that steph opens his mouth too much and what comes out is less than intelligent most of the time, but I didn't see that much harm this time. Mchale is a scumbag, and marbury really felt he tried to besmirch his character when he left minny, I can understand that, he took a few shots at Mchale, but no worse than guys like Kobe to to His GM, or even the shot KG gave to minny, indicating that they were dishonest when it came to dealing with him. It happens, I think most of the guys( I am not including you in that bunch) on this site that don't like marbury will make a bigger deal out of it that it really is.

TKF I think Kome is a jerk. I think KG is a good guy. As far as Marbury goes its just 1 thing after another and it never benefits the Knicks team.
I agree with you about the Clones on the board hating Marbury BUT in this case they finally have a point to some degree. Its time for Marbury to shut up. Look at the rest of the Knicks players. Do you see any other Knick player acting like Marbury in the press year after year?
Did Patrick act like this? Did Clyde? Did King? Does Curry? Does Lee? Does Crawford?
You are an intelligent fair minded guy. I'm sure deep down you know Marburys taking cheap shots at other players/coachs/gms and acting the fool in the media every week does not help the Knicks team.
