Interesting opinions. Where do UK Mafia members stand? I, for none, do not see more than 36-38 wins this season. Mark it down.

Writer roundup: Has the balance of power shifted in the East?
ESPN.com

Henry Abbott, TrueHoop: If I'm right that Chicago, Detroit, Boston, Cleveland, Miami, Toronto, and probably New Jersey will make the playoffs, then there's one spot left. The Knicks may well take it, but they're not a lock for anything. Practically every player on the roster needs the ball to be effective. I hope it'll work out, but I wouldn't count on it. And they'll have to beat out Orlando, Washington, Philadelphia and everyone else.

John Hollinger, ESPN.com: Not with that defense, no. The only lock here is that the Knicks will be a bottom-five defensive team with that Curry/Randolph frontcourt. Maybe they sneak in and maybe they don't.

Marc Stein, ESPN.com: Even though I thought trading for Zach was a worthy risk for Isiah Thomas, I have to see how Randolph and Eddy Curry co-exist before I buy all the way in. I know Zach can step out and hit jumpers, but there are some questions there.

David Thorpe, Scouts Inc: No. We still need to see how Eddy Curry does when the offense does not revolve around him. And they will struggle to defend people inside. Toronto, Orlando, New Jersey, Chicago, Cleveland, Detroit and Boston are all better on paper, leaving just one spot. And Charlotte plus the Hawks will be improved, too.

I still think the Knicks win no more than 39 games this year.

I think, for all the promises we've been given, 45 should be a bare mininum. My prediction is 43 wins, and that is potentially generous for a team that won 33 last year. I can certainly see the team flunking and being under .500, though, which would be a shame.

talent wise they should be a lock. But since we don't ask our players to play both sides of a two sided game, it will be a question mark. Let's just hope that Curry and Zach figure out that defense is important on their own, because fans are obviously not allowed to ask them to do so.

I would be shocked if they make the playoffs. Epecially when the Knicks have players that take nights off. I expect the Knicks to win 38 to 41 games tops.

Yeah, right! Frankly there aren't really bad teams to beat up on anymore in the East.
Frankly, I don't know that we improved relative to our competition very much at all.

I'd be very upset if they aren't a significantly better team in terms of wins (though I've said that for the last 4 years running), but I still don't think that makes this team a lock for the playoffs.

We won 33 games last year and added a 20 and 10 player. That addition alone should make us a 40+ win team. Add to that, the fact that we were the "greatest 33 win team of all time" and would have won 38-41 had we not had all the injuries, we should really be a 45+ win team with the addition of this 20 and 10 player.

But because our players aren't reliable, may not play hard on some nights and won't play defense we are left wondering if we will simply have to settle for being the "greatest 38 win team of all time"

This team has the talent to be a lock for the playoffs. Will they? It pains me that I don't know if they will

Well Starbury said they were a championship team on paper, so I'm going with that.

Anything less and they're just losers.

I said 39 wins in an earlier prediction thread but that was before KG was traded to their division rival. I'll say 37-39 and 11th in the conference behind Cle, Det, NJ, Bos, Chi, Mia, Tor, Orl, Wash and Charlotte. Mil and Atl will be on their heels too.

This is an interesting topic since everyone that considers themselves positive and harps on fans that actually look at the landscape of the conference and just tell it like it is are haters......

Lets not forget the hawks and bobcats in that equation we can't guard those teams, and philly doesn't have quit in them we do, and washington will win 42 games, so its going to be a stretch to make the playoffs especially with 0.7blks from curry and zach, thats just a fact.....

Isiah won't even be fired if they don't make the playoffs which is just laughable.....

Dude. "We got Zach Randolph! A left-handed, southpaw, switch-hitter!" 43 wins should be cake, shouldn't it?

The lovers say our biggest problems were Frye and Francis. They're gone. We added more youth. Lee is a year more experienced. Balkman is a year more experienced.

43 wins should be cake. That's my prediction. Any lover who bids lower holds the Knicks to a lower standard than I.

I don't get this year more experienced stuff.
Doesn't EVERY team's youth get a year more experienced every year?
Why is that a special Knick advantage?
How about Chicago, Toronto, Charlotte, Orlando, and Atlanta?
Especially, when their youth has higher ceilings then ours do, I don't really
see why this keeps getting brought up.

I think we should wait till the offseason's over before we make our official record predictions. There's at least and probably several moves yet to be made.

Otherwise, we'll have to cut two more of our "assets"

That's fine. Make an unofficial one here. If no more trades were possible, where do you think the Knicks are?
