One veteran NBA ref, speaking on the condition of anonymity as the league doesn't allow referees to talk to the media, said adhering to the operations department's rules makes it "easier than ever" for someone to influence games. "There is such an emphasis on 'call the foul' and the way (the league) wants the game refereed. Any contact is a foul. At the end of the game you can call any point of emphasis and nothing can be said."


Another veteran official, who also worked games with Donaghy, said current guidelines allow an official to make calls anywhere on the court. That's why, he says, no red flag is raised when referees make calls that are out of their area of responsibility.

This is what purest have been complaining about ,but the love of the game has blinded many from dealing with this issue.
