i was at the liberty game on sunday. the garden vision central scoreboard has changed. there are now HDTV screens on 3 sides of the hexagon and a full LCD screen on the other 3. before, it had LED lights, now it's a fully function LCD panel.
they also have full LCD ribbons on the front of the upper tier behind the baskets. so now they can show alot more info and not just the standard LED lights like they had before.
thirdly, and finally, the shot clock over the baskets are thin and clear which can be seen from behind the basket and by the players on the court. there are 2 more shotclocks at the back end of the stansion (the support holding up the basket) for everybody on the other side of the courts to see.
these new screens, HDTV and ribbons are pretty bright and definitely change the experience at the game.

Whats a shot clock???
The Score board at the new Bobcats Arena (never sold the naming rights!) is all high def sreens and almost seamless. They can do anyting on it. on top is a skyline of charlotte and they can also do some neat things in the back ground.
The problem is its like looking at a computer screen or home TV and with the clarity you sometimes find yourself watching it instead of the game as its clear and the stats are flashing. ALso the timeout entertainment is engaging with shots of fans, celebs (few) and those funny dancing kids.
This stat of the art arena has it all, and I stopped going because the game seems secondary.
TO me the experience is more about extracting my dollars than the game itself. Granted, there have not been too many important games there yet, but enough is enough.
In MSG last season it was refreshing to just hang out and not be so distracted, but I think in time MSG will catch up. If they build a new MSG, it will be cool, but will the experience be the same?
