I am so shocked and saddened to announce one of the all time Knick greats, Dave DeBusschere has tragically died at the age of 62. I'm stunned and send along my deepest condolences to his family. This is a sad day within the Knicks family. We've lost one of our very best.

I'll never forget the day my father walked into my room and proceeded to tell me that the Knicks made the best trade in Knicks history... Dave DeBusschere for Walt Bellamy and Howard Komives... he was right, the rest is history.

I took brief moment of silence for Dave. He was the original Oakley....the Captain's sidekick.

I'll never forget when we won the first overall pick in 1985 !!! He danced all over because he knew we won the PATRICK EWING lottery !!!

What a tragic day for the DeBusschere family, every Knick fan and for the game. For those of you not lucky enough to have seen him play - imagine Ron Artest without the behavior issues. This man was pure class and one helluva defender. One of the original warriors.

RIP, and thank you for inspiring a life long love for the game and the Knicks.

He used to live three houses down. He was a good guy, one time I had to sell tickets for a raffle for my football team to raise money and he bought $100 worth, the entire roll. I'm too young to have seen any games of him or to even have seen the Ewing lottery, but from the ESPN Classic I watch he was a great player. RIP Mr. DeBusschere.

Hey guys, sad day. You'd think a guy like Dave would be a pillar of health and that docs might have seen trouble with his heart beforehand. My uncle was a huge fan and formed his game after Dave in many ways. R.I.P.

For those of you too young to have seen him play-he was both bright and articulate. On the basketball court, he was a fine passer (they didn't have point forwards then),he was Rodman on defense and the boards and KG offensively with greater range. Had they had the 3 pt shot-he would have been among the league leaders.

I sum, on or off the court he was a man anda darn good one.

Quite right Sage... deservedly named one of the NBA's elite, top 50 players. To have watched Dave and the "glory" Knicks... was to watch basketball played as it was intended. That Knicks team became a part of my soul.
