Stephen Jackson and Ron Artest have been suspended seven games without pay by the NBA for recent scrapes with the law, the league announced Saturday.

Jackson, of the Golden State Warriors, was suspended for pleading guilty to criminal recklessness in Indiana, while Artest was suspended for pleading no contest to spousal abuse.

Both suspensions will begin with the first game of the 2007-08 NBA regular season.

Jackson pleaded guilty last month to a felony count of criminal recklessness for firing a gun outside a strip club last fall and was ordered to pay a $5,000 fine and perform 100 hours of community service.

Artest was arrested and charged in March with assaulting his wife. He pleaded no contest to the charge in May and was sentenced to 100 hours of community service and a 10-day work project.

Both players were previously suspended by the league for their involvement involved in the Indiana Pacers' brawl with Detroit Pistons fans at the Palace of Auburn Hills in 2004.

I'm a big Artest fan but I'm not sure if we should trade for him or not. Wtf, its too big a risk.

I don't think I want Ron here. I don't think he could handle NY. Something tells me Zeke knows this and will avoid him. Whatever he hints at - he suspended him when he was the Pacers coach and he had his share of run-ins with Ron.

I still stand firm on the Artest issue, if you can get him or cheap, get him. Malik (or either JJ's junk contracts) plus Nate. If they want more, walk away.
This isn't a new offense, but it is a good reminder of what a risk Artest really is.

Ron will never settle for being the fourth option on offense. And that's what he'd be here. At best.

I think that's Isaiah's recent way of approaching trades - especially for players with issues. That's the way he handled the deal for Zach and that's the way he's approaching the deal for Artest.

Kudos to the NBA on this one. The NBA image is taking a hit because guys are being complete and utter morons. Kudos to the NBA for taking action. Guys have one of two options: get the message or get out of the league.

Don't care where they got the idea; just glad they're taking action.

Actually, the NFL stole the idea from the NBA. The NFL did not have a policy in place to just suspend players other than matters related to drugs and guilty verdicts. It was sort of a wait and see attitude until a "zero tolerance" policy was put into place by the new commissioner. He adopted his policy after the NBA.

We're not getting him for Malik.

Any Artest trades talks will involve Lee or Balkman.

I agree. The question is, how much more will it take. I think that any deal will include the two expiring contracts, and one of our younger players - maybe Chandler.

I'm still a proponent of the future, and they get nothing younger than 26.

We are in a position to pass, why throw in a youngin?

They can pick from
jeffries (if we are getting artest, jefferies can go)
Q Rich (see jeffries, and has a bad back)
M Rose (love him, but we are getting artest)
jerome james
expirings

Everyone else we're better if we keep them and pass.

yes, even crawford, who's the only one that we know for a fact can feed the post effectively AND create his own shot.
