I've hated Isiah Thomas for a while now, but since his panic trades for Marbury, Crawford and Curry and his panic signings of James and Jeffries, I do like the roster. We've all heard of addition by subtraction, and I believe if the Knicks cleansed themselves of every non-draft pick since BEFORE Glen Grunwald came aboard, the Knicks' future IMMEDIATELY brightens.

PG Collins/Dickau/Nate, Jones
SG Collins/Nate/Nichols, Jones
SF Balkman, Chandler/Nichols
PF Lee, Morris
C Randolph*, Morris
* I know Randolph is a PF, but so was JO and Isiah made that work in the Eastern Conference.

Obviously, this is a team that would need help in the back court in the worst way and would probably miss the playoffs... but imagine adding Derrick Rose, OJ Mayo or Chase Budinger to this group through the raft and/or having been in a position to offer a guy like Mo Williams the starting job. That would be a dynamic, young, entertaining squad.

I thought this idea was interesting because I have two very different feelings about the Knicks. I am not terribly optimistic about the team as a whole but am, however, optimistic about this portion of the team. Thoughts on this dichotomy?

How was Crawford a panic trade???? And how is Zach not??? Because he is in your lineup......... the knicks would be fine minus Marbury.

It's really the Crawford/Curry trades that upset me about IT, but what scares me more is the possibility he is going to keep pushing these guys down our throats.

I can't say I was ever in favor of the Jeffries signing, but I don't mind having him at the end of the rotation as another solid defense player.

I think what your lineup is missing is a defensive stopper/rebounder at center. I think Lee is more valuable coming off the bench and getting his 35 minutes at powerforward and small forward.

Defensive Center/(Zach moves to center)
Zach/Lee/Morris
Balkman/Lee/Chandler/Jeffries
Q/Nate
Marbs/Collins

I think that lineup is pretty solid, and fairly young.
I think there is a definite possiblity that IT is looking to move in a direction away from Curry now that he has had to coach Curry personally for a year, and now has to deal with his serious limitations as a player as opposed to just shoving him on someother coach. I think the Randolph trade might be evidence of that.

You have no clue who Zach is and you believe Isiah is moving on from Curry for him. The guy is the Marbury of of PowerForwards minus the athleticism and top 5 status at his position.

Half of this team is good on paper
Half is bunch of good prospects
Reality... is mute. We have no proven winners and no solid players
But this is IT plan to have it mute.
This way he can keep his job in NY forever.
Knicks will pay 45 mil of luxury tax which is more that the rest of the NBA combined to pay for 33 win season. IT should work for the Knicks for $1 to offset the loses.

So Zach is a draft pick when it suits the argument? Also Randolph Morris was a free agent signing. But I agree, for the most part that his trades and signings have been tough to take. But I still like the Crawford trade a great deal and the Zach and Curry trades were both solid. And don't forget the Balkman pick came in a trade. I think moving forward we'll have to pick between Zach and Eddy and ship out the one we don't want for a more rugged defender, but he has added talent.

Really, if you just remove his MLE free agent signings - Jefferies and Jerome, his moves are a lot easier to swallow and our cap situation would be that much better. I think someone here said this - but using the MLE is probably never a good idea.

The individual parts are very likely better than the culmulative ones. If we can get what we are seeing in terms of play from the SL to the real gig--meaning
+ categories in assists blocked shots steals and FG%---we will win --that is the bottom line.

Our defensive numbers in the SL and assists have been unreal--that is why this Knicks SL team should win every game---unless they play the subs past green more than 2-3 minute spot duty. If it was me--id let the top 6 play 35 minutes the last two---play to win

No, it is still a transaction. You're right. However, this trade had a decidedly different tone than Isiah's transactions of the past... something I give Glen Grunwald a fair amount of credit for. Perhaps this is an incorrect assumption on my part but, regardless, this trade was made from a position of decided strength.

Isiah outbid himself for Curry (should have lotto protected the pick) but with that said, I like adding Curry to this team. Craw wasn't bad get when you consider that he probably should be a 6th man.

Id keep these two along with the Isiahs draft picks.

He did give up more than he needed to get Curry. But he got very good value in the Randolph trade. Maybe he learned a lesson.
