The Bulls agreed to a two-year contract with free-agent forward Joe Smith, the Sun-Times has learned.
Smith was thought to be the Bulls' No. 1 priority among the available free agents.

Smith, who was the No. 1 overall pick by the Golden State Warriors in the 1995 draft, averaged 9.2 points and 6.7 rebounds in 54 games last season with the Philadelphia 76ers. While the 76ers could have offered Smith more money, the Bulls likely sold him on the fact that they are a legitimate contender in the Eastern Conference.

Solid signing because they probably locked him up on the cheap basically a younger version of P.J. Brown and does have some post offense. They really should be the front runners to come out of the East.

Whatever. :) Joe Smith's been done more or less since his 2nd season in the league. More filler. Actually, given everything, it was probably a mistake trading Aldridge for Tyrus Thomas last year. They lost a whole lot of size when they gave up Curry and Chandler for almost nothing but picks (and used the free money to sign Big Ben).

Tyrus gets lost in the shuffle with their barrage of 6'7"-6'9" fundamentally sound guys.

He was probably signed for a minimum amount as injuyr protection. If he was signed for more than that, it's a bad signing.

after living the past decade in lottery land the bulls add another "vet" player to a much-need-to-improve frontcourt.

after picking up another high octane player in noah the mighty joe smith acquisition is a real nice tweak

....and could be chitown's best bang for the buck yet. (tweak category)

If there was ever a player who lived up to his name better than Joe Smith I would like to know. Bland.
